With a 4.6 weighed GPA and a rank of 3 out of 424, what are my chances of getting into Northwestern with a 27 act composite score?
What are less competitive schools in the Chicago land area with that would fit my test scores and GPA.

What is your uwGPA? ACT 27 is too low for NU.

My uw gpa is a 4.0, my teacher is pushing me to apply there. What alternative schools would you suggest for engineering?

UIUC, Purdue, and Loyola might work.

UIUC engineering has a mid 50ACT of 31-34 (vary with programs). So 27 may still be too low even for in state student. Nevertheless, OP may apply for General Studies first and work hard at freshmen before declaring major.

are you from an underperforming/urban school or are you from New Trier?
What’s your parents’ budget? Will you need financial aid, merit aid?

There are more than three colleges in Illinois! (Based on CC, I’d assume that the only schools in this state are UIUC, NU, and Chicago.)

In Chicago, there’s Loyola, DePaul, IIT, UIC…depending on what you’re interested in. Also some of the nearby LACs and smaller universities like Wheaton, Lake Forest, North Central, or Carthage (which is just across the border). Other good directional schools like ISU and NIU. Check out nearby OOS public schools like Iowa State, Iowa, Indiana State, or one of the many Wisconsin campuses.

Don’t put blinders on your search!
