northwestern's rival?

If you’re an NU diehard, you’ll know that the only hot-blooded rivalry that NU has in football currently is with Iowa.

BTW, I wouldn’t say that NU and UChicago hate each other or have a rivalry. They’re too different with mostly different strengths. Same reason why Harvard and MIT don’t have a rivalry.

@chibearsfan17 You realize that UMich is ranked worse in almost every ranking around? I mean, they might be better for your department, but coming in with your smug “I hope Northwestern students realize Michigan is better” is really dumb.

There seems to be somewhat of a rivalry with Notre Dame…both schools had Ara Parsigian as coach, both schools have tons of alumni in the Chicago area, both like to claim academic superiority over U of Michigan, both are mid-sized privates in a region where big publics tend to dominate. There are a lot of really smart kids (especially in the Midwest) who narrow it down to ND and NU…if they pick ND the superiority in sports might be the reason; which makes gridiron victories for NU over ND (like in 2014) especially sweet.

At every NU football game I went to in Evanston, there were more away team fans than NU fans in the stadium. Has that changed recently?

@classclown, yes. NU fans are in the majority at most home games now.

Note that NU has a spreadout national fan base (as well as alumni base and applicant pool), so we tend to represent well at away games.

I think the biggest rivals are probably Penn, Cornell, Duke and Georgetown

I get Penn Cornell, Duke. Don’t get the Georgetown connection… G.U. not big in anything N.u. is big in (journalism, theater, engineering

)…and G.U. is big in undergrad biz and I.R. which aren’t big at N.U.
