Not a citizen OR a permanent resident (PSAT-related)

So, I'm a legal immigrant to the United States and I've been here since 2nd grade, now a junior, and I'm taking the PSATs on Wedensday.

The only language I speak is English, and the only country I really know is the United States, but because I won't have a green card (permanent residence) for a few more years, I can't benefit from the "NMSQT" portion of the PSAT/NMSQT.

I get good grades, I'm involved in my community, I rarely get in trouble (certainly never with the law), and I have lived here almost nine years. I consider myself a valuable member of my school and community at large. Yet because of the complicated immigration rules, I am not a permanent resident and thus cannot benefit from the NMSQT.

It's times like this that really make me feel pretty crappy. Anybody else in this situation (or know somebody who is)?

=[

(And I'm still bothering to study for it anyway, only because colleges do see the grades and use them to figure out who to send those pretty little guides to.)

You only need to apply for it, methinks. Just a Form I-797 will suffice for the meantime.

By the way, you can't be an immigrant without being a citizen. You're a legal alien.

But you only get that after you apply, and if I can't apply because I do not currently meet requirements for application...well, that just looks silly. And then I'd be denied, and it would make things a little messier when I want to do it for real, when my requirements for application are fulfilled.
