Not caring after being accepted?

you get accepted into the college of your dreams. would you start caring less about your high school work because it doesn't matter anymore? or does it?

I stopped caring after 5th grade and I have a great life.

yup, stopped caring. I have become very fed up with the high school system… I want to be engaged in class and Im tired of busy-work homework assignments. I mean I still try because I have nothing better to do, Im just more bitter about it I guess. and I have slightly lower standards (Bs are OK now!)

My best friend got into Stanford SCEA, and now he pretty much naps through all our classes except Physics. I am very jealous.

OP: It matters. Colleges can rescind your acceptance if your grades fall far enough. It has happened.

I could have written with Xargon42 said, with one exception: I never really cared. I’ve had senioritis since the fifth grade, when I realized there were intellectually-stimulating institutions out there. My goal was to get really good grades in the first semester so they could drop this semester. Honestly, my classes this year are very easy, so a drop in the level of work means a low A at worst. I can definitely pull a B in AP Stats if I stopped working, but the class is generally interesting and useful.

I’m fed up with my non-AP classes. At least my semester classes switch on Monday because of the new semester, but I know Economics will be filled with busy work because I took honors rather than AP, and Interior Design is guaranteed to be dumb. I’m hoping that Sociology is interesting, as it is a college course. At least AP Lit and AP Euro are awesome classes! =)

Aah, I can’t wait until college. I keep reading all the course catalogs that I picked up from my visits, and they are making me so jealous. I think deemed at least half of the courses in each book “awesome”.

I’ve stopped caring about my AP calc and physics courses, two subjects I’ve been struggling in. I’ve realized that getting a C in either one is no big deal, as I’m not looking at elite schools that would rescind for a C or two. Other classes I still care about to some extent.

As long as your grades don’t drop too much, feel free to not care as much as you want.

Unless you get a 5 (or maybe a 4) on the AP test in a high school AP class, you will likely have to take the course over again in college if you need it there. Too many years ago, I took AP Calculus BC (among others) and did not get a 5. I lived, and re-took the course in college (it was a required course). It was not too tough in college, though the one year HS course lasted only about 3 months in college (MIT). So, taking a breather second semester would probably be OK, just don’t flunk out, and don’t go lower than one step down in your grades (Bs, if you have been getting As)! This should be a fun semester for seniors. Do something. Try out for a play, musical. Do some volunteer work. Next year will be tough!
