Not elegible for fin aid????

Hey guys,

Im an international student seeking aid that has already been accepted to Emory. I waited for my fin aid award for several aid until I decided to send an email and ask the fin aid office what was the problem. Their response was the following:

“Good morning,
As an international student you are not eligible for any federal, state or institutional aid (need based). The international scholarship is processed by admission department and the 20k Liberal Arts scholarship is what you received.”

How is this possible? If you go and check their website: http://apply.emory.edu/apply/international.php under the section titled Financial Assitance for International Students, they clearly state: "Emory University is committed to enrolling a talented first year class with representation from all corners of the globe. In accordance with this philosophy, Emory University offers need-based financial aid awards to a select group of international students each year. "

Do any of you guys have this problem? (international students seeking aid).
What should I do?

Thanks

need-based financial aid awards to a "select group" of international students each year.

May be you are not in that select group.

The Liberal Arts scholarship you received might be their name for need based aid for internationals. A $20k scholarship seems like a pretty generous award. How much can your family afford to pay?

@ysr2009 I know that maybe I’m not in the select group, but that doesn’t mean I’m not “elegible”. And no, the liberal Arts scholarship is just a merit award @austinmshauri my parents can afford around 15k per year
