So I received my financial aid notification the other day and was a little surprised to see that I didn't receive the top 10 scholarship. I meet all eligibility requirments, as listed on collegefortexans.com, I sent fafsa in january and my efc is 400. I cantacted financial aid, and apparently I dont qualify for the scholarship because my graduation date was in May 2013 (I took a year off). So, is this some kind of UT only thing, or maybe an unwritten rule? Because I've checked various websites and none of them mention a graduation date requirment. Am I also given less priority for other kinds of aid because of my graduation date? I never would have taken a year off if I knew it would end up costing me thousands in lost aid.

When were you accepted to UT? this year or last year. You were the class 2013 graduate so your rank was not a current 2014 class rank. Unfortunately.

On almost every Texas University websites I have found it clears states as an eligibility requirement:

enroll full-time in a Texas public 2-year or 4-year college or university the fall immediately following your high school graduation

So no, you would not qualify. I thought I remembered this being the case, but wanted to verify.

Unfortunately, you did not miss much. The maximum (initial year) award for 2014 is $1500. My daughter received only $600 (our EFC = $0). The State funds are very limited - while recognizing, every little bit helps, I am confused why such a small amount.
