Hi,

Currently I have received acceptance as a transfer student into Rice University but they want my decision made by May 13. The problem is that the other schools I'm also applying to haven't even sent out their admission letter and won't send them out til mid- or late-May, therefore what should I do? I love Rice to death but honestly, it isn't my first choice and therefore I would rather wait to see the options I have before finalizing my decisions.

I would ask them to extend the decision date in light of the above information. If they won’t do it then you have no choice to commit and pay a deposit which you will lose if you decide to matriculate elsewhere. It seems like a waste of money but you’ll think it is a good decision if your first choice comes through.

Ok. So the deposit doesn’t make my matriculation into Rice binding? I can still pay the deposit yet still go to a different school if I decide to? Thanks so much, man. You’re really helpful.
