Not excited for college? :c

I start Temple University in Fall 2014 and i'm NOT excited at all ... 1) I HATE the area (North Philly). My goal from freshman year was to be out of state. 2) I don't know anyone going there (I know most people meet new people but most of my closest friends are going to UDel, where I want to go so badly). 3) I'm honestly not sure that I've made the right choice about my college decision.... Am I the only one?

Try to go in with an open mind. If you think you’ll hate it, it’s going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy and you’ll make yourself miserable. If you go in thinking that hey, it’s not your first choice but it’ll still be a good time, it’s more likely to work out in your favor.

If you already dislike the school so much, why didn’t you apply elsewhere? Is it too late for you to pick somewhere else?

I went to my college not knowing anyone. It’s normal. You meet a lot people. Like what was said before, have an open mind.

Don’t worry. It’s naturally a difficult transition- don’t believe the ■■■■■■■■ that floats around that you walk into your dorm and feel at home, nobody does, whether they went to their top choice or their safety- if you are worried about the area, don’t be. Yes, there are dangers, maybe a bit more then UDel, but you learn how to be safe, and campus itself is safe. I’m currently pulling an all nighter at the library, and will have to go back to my apartment soon (alone, at 4AM) and I feel safe. If you really hate it here, you can transfer after a year or two, but don’t come in with your mind already made up. That is asking for failure.

Temple is good. While the neighborhood might not be your type of thing, it is very centrally located and I’ve never had a problem getting around by bus, train, bike, car (if you have one), etc. the entire city is your thing, and there is a hell of a lot to do in Philly.
