Hi All,
I’m hoping to transfer to UC Davis next fall as a biochem or biomed engineer. I have taken almost all of the classes and have a GPA so far of 4.0, but that will decrease after I finish OChem. But still, pretty good GPA and I think my personal statements are up to par (hopefully) and I have a job as an intern at a biotech company. My question is, if I have not taken a second semester of english and a first semester of Bio, but I have taken all the math, chemistry, physics, engineering, and computer science classes on the assist.org page, will UC Davis reject me? Or will they holistically look at me and let me in as a transfer student and let me finish the classes at the campus next fall, assuming I get in?
Thanks!
UCD’s Assist page for our local CCs says: “The College of Engineering requires one English course as part of its lower-division preparation. However, the University requires two courses in English composition for transfer admission. When chosen carefully, this second course could help satisfy general education requirements. Please contact your college counselor or the UC Davis College of Engineering Undergraduate Office at (530)752-1979 if you have any questions.”
It also says REQUIRED for Bio course.
You don’t have a good chance for admission.
You NEED the second English. It’s a UC minimum requirement. I can almost guarantee you will not get in without it.
I believe the above is simply saying to make sure you choose the correct courses to fulfill the UC GE requirement.
Risk it at your own peril.
I’d like to give an update, I just emailed the UCD Engineering Dept Chair and she told me that one can be missing a maximum of 2 required classes and still be able to attend, assuming you are accepted for regular transfer admission.
Did you tell them it was English?
I think the key phrase is “assuming you are accepted for regular transfer admission.”
I’m definitely taking a second semester of English this spring and I listed it in my UC transfer app. I think the dept chair was referring to classes like Bio 2.1 and Engr 16, possibly because not all CCC’s offer them. Speaking of which, I just found out that my school will not be offering Engr 16 this Spring, even though it has offered it every year for decades.
