Unlike everyone on this forum who get 2500's and have 9.6/4 GPA's and ask if they can get into community college, I have a situation where its not so obvious.....

I am an Male American student
Right now I have a 2200 on the SAT 1's
however, my GPA is a 3.3/4 Weighted
I have taken 6 AP classes and around 2-3 honors
For my subject tests i got a 590 on chemistry and 530 on Math 2, even though I am taking calculus this year and took AP chemistry.....to bad...

For my senior year (right now) I am planing on getting good grades, raising my GPA to at least a 3.6 in the first semester.

I just took the SAT again last Saturday so I will get around the same score or a little higher. I got a 780 on the math last time.

Here are a couple of questions:

Mcgill is rolling admissions, and i feel like the earlier i send in the application the better the chance. Should I retake the subject tests in November, which would leave me close to the December deadline? (I want to get the app in as soon as possible) Should I send the application in now with my GPA, and can my test scores make up for it (even without good SAT IIs)? I know the minimum for the chemistry and math 2 is 580 and 540 respectively.

I am applying for the engineering school and business school for a double major.

Also, what time do students who major in engineering wake up during the school week? For example, my friend is a freshman and majoring in arts, and states that she has her first class at 10, WHICH IS AMAZING. What about the engineering department, what time do (you) wake up?

I also asked my teachers and guidance for recommendations, and I just saw in the thread above me that those are not part of the rules. What would happen if you sent in the recommendations?

Nothing. The way I understood it from admissions is that sending in recommendations is not required but not disallowed either. I had my guidance counselor send in a recommendation, and nobody complained. Worst case scenario: they’ll just shred 'em if they don’t need them.

wait a sec…is McGill really rolling admissions? I thought they didn’t give out any decisions (for Americans at least) until February or something. When’s the earliest you can get a decision by and how long does it usually take from when you send in all your materials?

Well the deadline is January 15, but my friend applied there around now and got a response back in December; But one of the more knowledgeable guys should know better than me.

Pretty sure the minimum math & chem SAT II scores for engineering (and probably business also) are both 650. I think the minimums you mentioned only apply to less competitive colleges like Education, Dietetics, and Nursing.

I am a US student applying to B.Sc. and I was told the minimum math & science SAT II scores for that college are 670. I am retaking the math 2 in Dec because I feel like my 690 is too sketchy. I’ll also be taking the bio then for the first time and I’m scared to death since my HS has a terrible science program. :(

So what are you saying then…should I retake them in November? I wanted to send out the application literally next weekend after the October SAT scores come in. They have rolling decision, so I really want to take the early advantage.

Also, in the handbook their representative gave to us, and when I went to McGill to visit, they said the minimum SAT II’s were the ones I mentioned, but they didn’t have a specific school attached to them.

Should I still apply next week or what? This is really important, and I am trusting you guys, so please be sure about your information. This is my first choice college here.

mcgill is my first choice school, as well. all the more reason to not chance with providing AT LEAST the minimum required, right? :)

it seems to me that it may look like they have rolling notifications because those extremely well-qualified applicants who have no missing info do find out right away. everybody else seems to get stuck in ‘further review’ or whatever it’s called. i too am anxious to apply, but i am waiting to see my first round of scores (from the SAT a few weeks ago)… hopefully, they won’t be too bad.
