Where should the not-so-famous national/international awards stand? Do universities still value them?

What kind of awards? I mean, I wouldn’t put making the Honor Roll on my college app, but there are a ton of impressive awards that are national/international awards. Universities will definitely still look at them and if anything, it will show your dedication to a particular EC or subject or whatever. It won’t hurt, so unless it’s super trivial, put it on your app.

.
How do you define “super trivial”? Could you give me some examples?

have some common sense with it , come on

Perhaps I should be more specific:
I have an art award. The organization also sent me a prize and a certificate. It claimed that it had received works from over 30 countries.
Is it trivial?

Is the organization it came from legit? Do some research on it… i’d personally put it

Yes I believe that the organization is legit. I can find its website (with its contact number, address, etc.) and its profile on wikipedia with 15+ references.

Ya, that’s definitely legit and not “trivial”. By trivial, I meant getting a perfect attendance certificate or something like that. lol

I’d definitely mention it.

^ Exactly. It can’t possibly be a minus :)

As an international student from SE Asia I have several national awards, they are all English language-based and the level of competition is national and intense, however, they would be, to add coms, obscure and unheard of, I really have no idea how I should put these awards across. For example, I am a finalist for a national speech competition called the Pet Yod Mongkut. Now I have no idea how add coms are going to register this across in comparison to well known American awards. Even if the add com would like to confirm the legitimacy of the award, all of the available information on the internet would be in the local language, other awards that are largely regional also don’t have any kind of website at all :P
