Not such a great GPA ..

Thanks alot for your feedback! Just wondering, at which schools do you think I “stand a pretty solid chance”?

Hm… I’d say (providing your test scores are good: 2200+) you have a really good chance at schools like Vanderbilt, UMich, Boston College, and those kinds of schools. You’ll be in the running (no guarantees obviously) at schools like Duke, Cornell, Northwestern, and Georgetown. HYPSM and all of those will be reaches, obviously - they are for all but the most outstanding of applicants. But with regards to your original question - your GPA is a hurdle that can certainly be overcome, especially with a cumulative 3.7+, difficult classes, and a strong upward trend. Good luck.

thank you!! I feel kind of relieved haha… I see that you go to Carleton. How is it?

Well, I don’t really know yet - I’m Carleton class of '14, meaning I’m high school class of '10, meaning I’m just wrapping up my last semester of high school right now.

Oops, my bad ha

I don’t think that missing out on 3 honors classes especially in freshman year will be that big of a problem; the issue would be that you got a 3.4 gpa taking more standard classes than honors classes. But since you are only a sophomore, you have only completed half of what will be sent to RD colleges. You still have 3 and a half semesters left to raise your gpa.
Also, despite what drought said, it may have been his/her experience, but gpa is not an end all be all, and a 3.7-3.8 UW is definitely not bad for top schools. But looking at your weighted gpa, i am led to believe that your school heavily grade inflates, so be more concerned with your actual grades, and in what level classes they were in, than your W gpa.
Last point: I think people have gotten this idea that to get into HYPSM & other top schools you need to have 3.9 + and 2300+, but that is simply not the case. After a certain gpa & sat threshold, these schools are looking for attributes that will make you stand out from the other applicants (be it starting a non-profit or a business, etc.).
So… don’t freak out.

Everyone pretty much said the main things. Im not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but Princeton doesn’t count freshmen GPA, so your GPA would prolly be up to their par (if you’re worried about HYP).
