So last semester I wanted to take a human factors class just to see if it would be something I would like. But the class conflicted with my schedule so I decided to do an independent study. I thought an independent study would just be me working and researching on my own. Boy was I wrong! I have to do a lot of work working with a group. So to me this isn’t really an independent study.
I’m taking 20 credit hours. If I drop it I’ll be at 16. I’m not sure if this semester is going to be too hard for me, especially since I’ll have to make time to meet with the group members. I’ve never dropped anything, but I don’t want to get overwhelmed and I don’t want it to be on my transcript.
If you don’t want to take the class and you don’t need it to graduate, then just drop it. There’s no shame in that. I’ve dropped classes because I got an extra job that quarter and didn’t want to stress myself out. Just make sure there are no downsides. Check to make sure that you won’t go below some required number of units to be full time or to keep a scholarship, make sure you won’t get a W or some other poor grade, and make sure you don’t need the class to graduate.
I don’t need this class to graduate, it has nothing to do with my curriculum so I’m good there. I’ll also still be full time because I’ll have 16 credit hours. I’ll just have to check to see what will appear on my transcript. Thanks.
Talk to your adviser and see what they think. Do you have another professor that knows your work that would be able to give you a recommendation if necessary.?
