For the major i am applying for, at UCB, i will have completed the pre- reqs by spring 09. The only pre req i have remaining is a statistics course. however on assist.org there are some recommended courses which are Calculus 1 and 2. Now for the IGETC, i have to 1 english, 1 math, 1 science course remaining. The english and sciences courses, i plan to complete in spring 09.

For the other UC schools i am applying to, they just require statistics and not calc 1/2. So i am currently undertaking calculus 1 this semester to satisfy both the recommended courses list and the IGETC. However i am finding the course difficult and will at best achieve a B/C. this will obviously lower my gpa due to it being a 4 unit course.

So my questions are, is it ok to drop the course for a W, and retake it again in the spring? Or is it better to achieve a D/F and then retake it again in the spring? As far as the IGETC, my statistics course is offered in winter intersession, so i plan to take the course then to fufill the IGETC math requirement.

I have no W's on my transcript presently, and if i did drop for a W, or a D/F, do i need to explain this on my personal statement?

THanks for any help
