Dilemma

Hey guys,

This is my first post on this forum and hopefully someone could help me out.

I plan on transferring to UCLA(hopefully) Fall 09 as a Microbio major. I currently have 2 W's on my transcript in my Pre-req classes, but I have re-taken these classes for a grade during the following semester. I am currently taking a Calc. 2 class, but the teacher is really horrible. An "A" is impossible and a "B" is unlikely, but possible. My winter session ends on Feb. 7 so I will have my grade by the time the application update is due. Would I be shooting myself in the foot for dropping the class with a "W" and taking it during the winter session? My stats are below:

Major: Microbiology
GPA: 3.5 (TAP certified/IGETC certified)
Pre-Reqs: All will be completed(including the Physics series) by Spring 09, except for a Genetics class due to scheduling conflicts. However, I will be completing that class during Summer 09.
Main Extra-cirric's: Work(2 years) and volunteering at a hospital(4 years in Microbio lab/E.R.)

Any type of response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your EC's for your major are some of the best I've ever seen. If you write a great essay you'll probably get in for sure.

In my experience, the only way in hell I'd drop that class and retake it in winter is if I talked to people who had taken it with the winter instructor, and saw that he/she had a ton of really great ratings on ratemyprofessor.com.

If your current teacher has crap ratings on there but the one for winter sounds amazing, go for it. If not, I'd probably stay put. But that's just me. Others might feel differently.

My current teacher was fine for the earlier chapters, which was basically review for me because my Calc. 1 teacher had already taught it. But as soon as she hit the new stuff, it went downhill from there. She doesn't teach, she just does problems out of the book and doesn't explain them that well either.

I looked up the winter professor on ratemyprofessors and a majority of the people say that he's a really good teacher, but his tests are difficult (not tricky, just hard).

Not sure what to do.

They will scrutinize you for not finishing all the pre-reqs.

Yeah, I was just told that by my honors counselor. I searched long and hard and I found a college that offers Genetics during winter and spring, so I'm just going to take it there this winter. I will now have all my pre-reqs done by the end of Spring 09.
