I have a problem with my schedule in that if I take the chem lab, I'll be late to my next class almost every time (due to the distance), and I don't really want to miss out on the material. Will it hurt me if I take chem 3AL next semester, and just take chem 3A (lecture) for fall? And then I might be taking Chem 3B + 3AL in spring, and 3BL in summer. Is this a bad idea?

shouldn’t be a problem, they’re not really related

gotta take 3al before 3b right? =

nevermind i think

^ under prereq’s for Chem 3B, all it says is “3A with a grade of C- or higher.”

I’m pretty sure you have to take both simultaneously unless they just recently changed their policy, in which case…I still recommend you do it that way.

Due to budget cuts that have reduced the number of labs, it is no longer required to take 3A and 3AL simultaneously. Last semester I know a couple of my friends who didn’t take 3AL with 3A together simply because they had a late telebears and could not get into a lab.

Catalog is inaccurate. You learn NMR in 3AL. For 3B with Vollhardt, you need to know NMR. For 3B with Pedersen or Viernes, you need to understand several 3AL concepts to understand a couple things; also, Pedersen outright says in lecture that 3AL is a prereq.

hmm, I’ll have to double check if chem 3AL is necessary for 3B, but I did find out that I didn’t need to take 3A with 3AL… Thanks for the input guys.

It is, there is no necessary double checks, it is pretty much an unwritten rule

nevermind, I’m glad I did anyway… The policy changed so now you can take 3AL with 3B, except that you must have passed chem 3A. (from prof. pedersen)
