Chem 3AL must be completed with a passing grade of C- or better before taking Chem 3BL. Chem 3BL may be taken concurrently with Chem 3B, or after passing Chem 3B with a grade of C- or better.

I know for a fact BIO 1A MUST be taken with 1Al…but for BIO you only need 3a, i believe.

For people who’ve taken Chem 3A with Lab, how much time/effort would you say the lab added to the class? do you think you would have done better taking strictly 3a?

hey, I was wondering, do chem 3al labs always take up the whole 4 hours? I’m thinking of a having back to back classes, so I was wondering if I’d be late for that next class every time…

3AL is not difficult, just takes time, labs are usually 4 whole hours and rather boring. Lecture is an additional hour. Lab writeups can take up to 2-3 hours depending on the lab itself, how good you are at writing them, and how hard your GSI is. I didn’t think it required much “brainpower”, just lots of work for two units. I don’t think it affected my grade in 3A a lot either.

i’m really bad at Lab and i still ended up getting a solid A in there. if i can do it, so can you guys lol.

@calstudent: 3AL won’t significantly add to your courseload. outside of the 4 hours you spend in lab, not much time needs to be spent on it (i just did my lab reports in thirty minutes lol).

@snoangel: yup, some labs might take you the whole four hours, some labs might not.

For me, lab was really time consuming. I spent about 3 hours on the lab writeup/prelab. Lab was easy but I’m just a slow thinker when it comes to writing.

Yeah, getting out on time depends on the group if you are working on a lab that requires group work. However, if it’s an individual assignment, it’s all up to you. That sucked for me since I’m a slow worker…
