Not taking GE courses early?

I’m a first year. Between taking a few exploratory courses along with Math, Chem, Physics and maybe Bio sequences, it doesn’t seem like I have much room in my schedule for GE courses the first 2 years, but it does seem like I’ll have plenty of room for GE courses in my last 2 years.

Is there anything wrong with taking most/all of my GE courses in my last 2 years? (Is there a requirement (other than Composition) that I take any/some minimum number of GE courses in my first 2 years?)

When I become an upperclassmen, will I still be able to take lower division GE courses, or must I take upper division GE courses ?

Thanks

I’m a junior transfer, and I’m still taking lower division GE courses like Bio 2B and Math 21B. But anyway, make sure those lower division GE courses aren’t prerequisites for upper division GE courses. For example, in order to take NPB 101, you have to pass Biological Sciences 2A and Chemistry 2B, and it’s also recommended that you take Physics 7C.

When you become an upperclassmen you can still take whatever classes you want. However i see no reason to delay doing your GE classes. Just start taking a mixture of major classes at GE classes. Most people finish their GE in their first 2 years, then focus on major requirements the last 2.

Look for the “Course Map” in your major… it gives you a good idea of the sequence of courses you can/should take during your 4 years.

@VentureMan, Thanks, I found course maps for a few of my potential majors. The maps pretty much confirmed that for some heavy science majors, there’s more room for GE towards the end. As long as I know I can do GE anytime, I’m fine. Thanks everyone.
