I did really great while getting my AA and then I did two semesters at a different university and flunked out. I am trying to get into a different university. What happens if I do not transfer my credits from the university I did bad at?
Does the university you’re applying to require transcripts from previous colleges? If so, and you omit transcripts and/or grades, then you risk having your admissions revoked. If you do apply and omit a transcript, get in, and graduate from the new university, your degree can be revoked if the university finds out after.
Many schools are associated with the National Student Clearinghouse which verifies degrees and enrollment. Therefore, they can find out your enrollment information as well as classes taken from different universities.
Also, I’ve heard that if you applied for and/or received financial aid then your new university will know of your previous enrollment.
There would also be a gap in your education history that could be a clue to the university you’re applying to.
When you apply for admission to a degree program at an accredited college or university in the US, you are obligated to provide official copies of all of your transcripts. Period.
No matter how old.
No matter where those colleges/universities are.
No matter how bad the grades are.
No matter if the institution was or wasn’t accredited.
Every single transcript.
Period.
What the place you apply to decides to make of your transcripts is up to them. Usually, the older the transcript, the less it matters. Also, if there is a valid reason (bad health, etc.) for a bad transcript, often that will be overlooked if documentation is provided that the situation has been resolved.
Contact the college/university where you want to apply. Make an appointment with transfer admissions. Take copies of all of your transcripts. Ask the admissions officer there what you need to do to make yourself a viable candidate for admission.
