Have no idea if it means anything, but son's "U of M Determined Residency Status" changed TODAY from Pending/To Be Determined to "In-State." They're obviously working on things!

They called me out of state residency and said I needed to fill out some residency form or something… Strange, considering I’m a Michigan resident.

Based on Q&A Faq :

Question
Why does my residency on web app status say “Pending”?
Answer

For all students applying for 2011 and beyond, residency determinations will occur after admission. All students who have indicated that they are Michigan residents will show “pending” as their residency status on web app status in Wolverine Access until they are admitted and officially reviewed by the Residency Classification Office.

It’s probably the closest thing to an early indicator of admission.

That would be nice; however, we don’t want to get our hopes up too soon and sit here waiting several more weeks. Let’s hope it’s an indication of progression through the process!

I actually sent them an email asking about this. The reply is below. I got my hopes up too…still waiting.

Hello,
Being as large of a University as we are, there are always going to be rumors and speculations as to our admissions dates and processes. For early action applicants we are guaranteeing that they will receive their decision by December 23rd, this date being the latest. As we make decisions we will mail them out in batches, however, no decisions have yet been made, nor do we know when we will being to release decisions. As for the residency status, if the status has already been determined, this does not mean your decision has been made, it is just a commonality in the application, and will have nothing to do with decision status.

Thanks and Go Blue!

That combined with the other grammar errors… makes me call BS/uninformed student admissions clerk rambling nonsense.

Son’s changed within the past week or so as well…

He is applying to engineering…Wonder if that makes a difference. I know the engineering applications are reviewed by their own people within the department. Maybe they have a different process.

Just a thought…

My son is also applying to the College of Engineering…

LSA here and mine changed today too.

There goes that theory! Glad that things are progressing for everyone, though…

My son’s engineering too…

I applied to Engineering as well. Engineering apps are reviewed the same as every other app, such as LSA, Nursing, whatever, and if there is any discrepancy in the decision, then and only then will Engineering “adcoms” look at it.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Oh…That isn’t what we were told at one of the informational sessions. We were told that the engineering admissions were sent directly to engineering because they review them themselves…

That’s odd. I’m not really sure then, since I remember reading what I said before. I guess it’s not really a big deal either way.

My understanding is that the general Admissions office handles all applications, but if there is a question, an application could be sent to the Engineering admissions office (which I think primarily handles graduate school admissions) for additional reads.

Regardless, just wish they’d start releasing decisions :)

I guess you guys are probably right, then…We went to 3 different info sessions-one on campus and two off campus-and I don’t remember which one it was at where we heard about engineering making their own application decisions…

Best of luck everyone…

Since we’re all waiting for decisions, we should have some fun with it.

I bet that the “instant ins” will receive their decisions by November 19. Borderlines by December 15, and everything else on the very last day. anyone else care to guess?

I’d say “instant ins” will be around the 26th, high applicants sometime shortly after the 1st, and the rest of the pack sometime after.

I think shoo-ins around the 15th, more by the 25th, another wave of strong students beginning of Dec and lots of deferrals by Dec 23.

So, are the masses thinking that “we will begin releasing acceptances in December” is merely a ploy intended to keep our expectations low? Has U of M Admissions historically ignored their published release date and given them earlier?
