The decision has been made. The letters will be printed in the next 48 hours and dropped in the mail on or by Thursday the 15th. This is the only way they can meet their commitment to let most know by the 20th.

Aaaaaahhhhhh.

Aaaaaahhhhhh.

Ahhh @giterdone are you sure? I’m desperately hoping to be accepted… I was deferred from Georgetown today (first school I’ve heard from). Luckily Notre Dame is my first choice, and Georgetown was my second!

To people who live on the east coast - how long do you think it will take for the ND letters to get here? I’m guessing they’d arrive on Saturday at the earliest if they’re sent out on Thursday…

i would think it would take longer than saturday for east coast…consider they are sending out so many letters…it will prob be monday the earliest

Hmmm you’re probably right… the idea of waiting another week sucks though.

Yeah unfortunately I’ve heard that they’re usually pretty close to the 20th… I hope it not true though, can’t wait to hear back.

giterdone, that’s both a scary and an exciting thought. Nerve-racking too…to know that somewhere near South Bend, there sits a letter with my name on it with my decision. I can’t even sit still thinking about it.

I’m just speculating that the absolute LATEST the notices could get in the mail is Thursday the 15th, to make both coasts by Tuesday the 20th. They can’t risk a couple thousand kids not getting their decision on the 20th. Their phones would be ringing off the hook on Wednesday, if that happened. Thursday is the latest, Wednesday (the 14th), ideal.

Means us in the Midwest should be checking our mail boxes Fri/Sat.

ellie5. i live 578 mi away in marylnd. wonder how long it’ll take.

nabian. hopefully my name is printed on a big white envelope. ><

i’ve been checking the results threads from previously years. most seem to receive their letters by the 18th…just saying.

@Bigeast, I hear you, I can’t wait for the envelope. I’ll at least take a deferral. ND is the top choice since I was just a kid. This is just a quick look I’ve what I’ve applied with…
GPA: 3.8
ACT: 30
Class rank: 29 out of 124
Rigorous course load, almost all AP’s available at school
Extracurricular:
Class President (Soph, Senior)
JV/ Varsity Football captain
Varsity Track
JV Basketball
American Red Cross Lifeguard (employed)
PGA (Professional Golf Association) Assistant Professional (employed)
Various community services (300+ hours)

Like I said, ND is the dream. Unfortunately, I don’t see myself getting in. I’ve done all I can do at my school, it’s just a farm town high school with very little to offer. I hope ND can see that I’ve given it my all on the opportunities I have been presented with.

I’ve sent a letter or two to admissions expressing my interest in ND, hopefully they know how passionate I am about it.

Alas, I am but another middle class white boy, never climbed Kilimanjaro, never performed a Caesarean section on a beached whale in South America, never met Che Guevera

All I can do is pray I guess, and leave it in God’s hands. Good luck to all, I’m praying for all of us! Hopefully one day soon we can share a traditional Irish drink when we’re all domers!

apparently, they’re mailing the decisions out on my birthday. this could either be a very hapy birthday or a very sad one.

I wish 18th wasn’t a Sunday… If i do not receive it Saturday (I live in Wisconsin) I will in hell for the next 48 hours!

Seriously. I’m in Wisco too hopefully they get here fast…
Good luck all and GO IRISH!

I got my letter last year on Monday, Dec. 20, in Dallas. Nearly knocked the mailman down on the front porch - he usually gets to our house around 10 a.m., but didn’t get there that day till nearly 4 p.m. I think the letters were mailed on Dec. 14 which was a Thursday. You can look for last year’s thread on receipt dates. Seems like immediate area around ND like Chicago and Indy-area got them the next day, but most of us got them on Monday. Bad weather in some areas delayed letters another day. The envelope said, “Welcome Home.” The memory stays with you. I hope all of you are here next year studying for finals with us.

It was Thursday, Dec. 16, not Dec. 14, as I said in previous post.

Hello, I am curious about whether being non-catholic helps, hurts or is ignored in admission. I am a protestant applicant and just fell in love with Notre Dame. When I’ve asked people’s opinions I’ve gotten mixed reviews on the topic. A lot of catholic people said it would help me in admission whereas non-catholics believed the opposite. What do y’all think?

I can tell you on the best authority- it does not impact you in any way for admissions or for financial aid.

the only possible way it hurts is that you’re less likely to know influential alumni (ND is one of the last schools around where rich and powerful alumni pulling string is very much a real practice)

@lloydbrady Nope, it has absolutely no effect on admissions whatsoever - you’re still Christian. I’m Catholic, but I go to a non-denominational Christian high school, and the Protestants who get accepted/rejected have similar stats to the Catholics in the same situation.

I’d imagine that the only effect religion could have on the admissions process is if you were a minority religion at ND - e.g. Hindu, Muslim - it may help your chances slightly, as the university has been pushing for more diversity in the student body for years. Though I’m not in ND admissions, so don’t take that as fact.

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you could tell me my chances of getting in to ND:

Weighted GPA (on 5.0 scale)-- 5.16–> if I do well this semester, 5.26
ACT: 32
SAT II Subject Test (Math): 760
All Honors and AP classes for all four years

Activities:
-research volunteer
-president and founder of medical club @ school
-varsity track
-writer for yearbook
-leadership club
-hospital volunteer
-participant in 2 religious clubs
-Hospital Junior Board President

Awards:
Regional Semi-finalist three years for National French Contest
Dean’s Honor Roll all four years
AP Scholar with Honor
Young Scholar’s Award

My essays are pretty good, and my letters of rec are very positive. I have had a lot of research experience.

So, thoughts?

My stats are near identical to yours (a bit lower gpa) and I also have research experience under my belt as well as another internship. I do however think my chances aren’t amazing, because the average ACT scores are very high for ND (32-34 is mid 50%). It could go either way, imo.

Everything looks pretty good… ACT is on the mid to low end of what they usually take.
So I’d say youve got a fighting chance.
no pun intended.
