Hey everyone. I am a senior and I applied EA to ND and got deferred along with ~800 other students. I have a 32 ACT, and I’m 6/380 students in my class. I’m in ‘We the People’ which is basically a governmental debate group where we’re asked questions about the constitution and bill of rights and judged on our answers. We won the state competition and we’re heading to nationals in April. I played varsity soccer for 3 years and I am in a competitive show choir ranked 10th in the nation. I was chosen as the sole alto senior director for the jv show choir at my high school after several people applied. It’s a major leadership position and time commitment. I also am in various volunteering clubs, NHS, and I volunteer every Sunday at a senior center. I actively participate at my Catholic Church and volunteer there as well. I know my scores aren’t as high as others but I’m such a hard worker and I think I really got that across in my essays - and especially in my letter of desire (optional letter deferred students can write to show how much they want to attend school at ND) I retook the ACT in February but I didn’t improve. I sent in my senior year accomplishments and my letter of desire but idk I’m just so nervous. What do you think my chances are?
You left out your GPA but, regardless, there are just so many moving parts to a holistic application that it’s really not worth your time fretting over. There’s no way for this group to evaluate the strength of your recommendations, essays, service commitment, legacy or lack thereof, state of residence, etc. Based on what you provided, though, assuming a GPA at least in the very high 3s, you have a shot. Others have gotten in with similar ECs and test score.

Your ACT is pretty average for ND, but your class rank and GPA are both great - along with the show choir extracurric, which I think stands out. I think that you have a great chance!
