I was wondering whether it is harder to get accepted into Notre Dame depending on the school you apply too? Mostly wondering whether it is harder to get accepted into The School of Architecture, College of Arts and Letters or College of engineering? (I'm not sure if applying EA will change how hard it is) EA decisions come out next week and I'm so stressed :(
Also when the admissions counselors discuss each applicant do they separate it by school that each applicant is applying too? Or does it not really matter?

Nope—it’s so easy to change majors after you’re in that it wouldn’t make sense to admit based on major (for instance, tons of people switch into business after the first term). Architecture’s a little harder to switch into just because the program is already 5 years and it’s easy to get behind, but as far as I know it still doesn’t make a difference on admissions. The only exception, I believe, is that transfer students cannot be business majors (Mendoza’s too popular).

Good luck!

Notre Dame does not admit students to particular schools. All freshmen take the first year of studies classes, with certain unique classes for each path you might be interested in. For example, prospective engineers will take different science and math courses than, say, a Mendoza student would. Students are generally not associated with a particular school until sophomore year. That having been said, it is unlikely that admissions people look at applicants by planned major/school.

Thanks guys! Im so scared I have my doubts about whether or not I got in… My school counselor went to ND and used to work for admissions there, and he was emailed by our states rep that a “few of his students would be hearing good news”… Hope I’m one of those “few”… :(

I know this is really hard, but try not to worry about it too much. It’s completely out of your hands now. Just try to relax for the next few days as you wait for your decision letter to arrive.
