Notre Dame at Penn State 9/8

While I do not pretend to know but just a small amount about football, I can tell you that having had a brother that played football in HS and listening to his coach (I know it was HS), plus the fact that I live in a state where football is the norm, not academics, I feel fairly confident that Charlie Weis is doing it differently! No, I do not know him personally, but compared to other coaches (college and otherwise), I do not find him to be unusually arrogant, rude, belligerent, etc. I am sorry that you are so disappointed with him as the coach! I am still behind the team 110%--GO IRISH!

what are you talking about charlie weis is an amazing coach. find me a football coach that doesn't swear scream and yell... it's the most high intensity sport there is--it's apart of the sport. he is one of the classiest coaches around he has gotten plenty of top recruits (as people and as football players)

it's surprising how many football players in my classes actively participate in class discussion and generally do well in class (although there are football slackers it's quite obvious that will always be the case)

charlie is not arrogant... he is quite hilarious in his speeches... he has raised huge amounts of charity money in the name of his daughter and her mental disability

as far as coaching, talk to brady quinn--the man who knows him the best, the man who took all his screaming, yet the man who respects him more than anyone else in this world!

notre dame does do football differently, charlie is a supporter of the fact that all football players get random roommates in random dorms. he wants the football players to be apart of the rest of the student body and they are. all experiences i've had with football players have been great (i have 2 football players on my floor who are VERY nice and hang with us). Charlie doesn't want his players to be "above the rest" of the school and this is why he supports the current living situation.

you would have to know next to nothing about football to call charlie weis a horrible coach... absolutely absurd... i will stand by him if we don't win a game this year.

Yeah I definitely think it's awesome that he wants the players to be a part of this school. If players weren't part of the school's incredible tradition and simply wore the colors and played on the team as part of an effort to get to the NFL, it would be a shame. If that were the case the football team wouldn't represent us. I think Charlie recognizes that. The only problem I have is his weight problem...it's embarassing for a coach of athletics to be so unfit.

"The only problem I have is his weight problem...it's embarassing for a coach of athletics to be so unfit."

I can't believe you just said that.Have you ever met a doctor that smokes? Does that make him/her less knowledgable about his/her field of practice? There is enough prejudice and little understanding and compassion for obese people lets not add this into the mix here. Charlie has suffered greatly with his obesity and in his efforts to get in under control. HE doesn't need anyone elses opinion or suggestions on the matter. Stick to his coaching experitise

Look at time index 4:47. Beyond people on youtube poking fun at us, my friends at Ohio State (I'm from Columbus) give me crap about Charlie all the time. It's not that big a deal. I'm just saying that I don't see anything wrong with the guy except for the fact that he ought to lose some weight. Oh and the doctor analogy is hardly correct--a doctor is more like a consultant, not a mentor, as Charlie is.

still waiting for a response from "crazyforyou"... have you ever played football? do you know anything about football?

what IS the deal with the athletes anyway? Do they live in the dorms all along? I thought at Frosh-O they said they lived in the dorms with the great unwashed for a semester.

Can somebody explain how it works?

My neighbor is a football player-Jashaad Gaines. We're both sophomores. I know Brady Quinn lived in the dorms up until his senior year when he decided to move off campus.

Push

" I don't see anything wrong with the guy except for the fact that he ought to lose some weight. "

He ought to lose weight??? Have you not heard of the following???

"New England Patriots Coach Charlie Weiss knows about that battle. He had gastric bypass surgery last summer and nearly died. "

Is that really worth his doing what you think he "ought "to do. Try a little empathy for his strugle it goes a long way. Light a candle at the grotto for him instead of judging him.

Putsch that you tube was kinda funny. Maybe a miracle will happen. We are going to that game so I hope so

jvon2432:

No, I never played football.
Yes, I know a little about the game of football.
You should calm down and reread my posts.
I don't think I ever mentioned anything about the big man's coaching ability, which I am not an expert on.
I stated my perception of the man as a human being, based on what I've seen and heard.

Do me a favor, next time you see the big guy on campus, try to shake his hand. Let me know how you make out.

Two words for you crazyforyou--Nick Saban! Come and try to shake his hand--unfortunately this is the nature of the game, I am sad to say! The general demeanor of coaches tends to border on what we "civilians" see as arrogant, belligerent, rude, etc. And, if you want a winning coach, likely this personality is what you generally get! No, I do not know either coach personally, as I have said in an earlier post--but compared to where I live, I still believe that Charlie Weis is doing it differently. As I said, try living in a state where football is the norm, not academics! You will see some fine examples of coaches and their existence as human beings--and not just at the college level!!!

Weis may or may not be more arrogant, more of a jerk, etc. than other "big name" collegiate coaches, however, Weis is certainly a HYPOCRITE.

During this past recruiting season, Weis went on ESPNradio lamenting about how HS recruits had no sense of keeping their word/loyalty since a couple of ND recruits backed out of their verbal commitments to sign LOI's with other schools.

And Weis was attacking HS kids for "not keeping their word" even tho HE, at the same time, kept on recruiting kids who had already given their verbals to other schools (with a couple of recruits ultimately reneging on their verbals to other schools to sign w/ ND).

ok if you're not arguing that he's a bad coach then i'll look at what you are arguing.

"For me, the magic of the Fighting Irish isn't just winning games. It's doing it differently than everyone else. Doing it while upholding the academic standards of the college. While promoting the values of the college, with respect, dignity, fairness, compassion, generousity. For now, with Charlie Weis at the helm, the magic is gone."

all inaccurate information, to put it simply... (look at my previous post for evidence)

Weis should just videotape the opponents' sideline every game. 10-2 here we come!

I am really sorry that some of you have issues with Charlie Weis--as I stated, trade places and live in my state for a while! Not only have football coaches done much of what those of you do not like about Charlie Weis, I could give you even more examples of coaches in positions that would certainly make you stand back--way back! We have a HS coach in our area right now, that had his team showcased on a National cable network, and is now accused of having a double life-with another family! I could go on and on about other programs including colleges in our area! Values and what is important are pretty hard to find around here. You have a right to your opinion, but until I PERSONALLY see differently about Charlie Weis, I intend to support him and the team!

"..what is important is pretty hard to find around here."
Football is important!

I personally support Weis. He is a great coach, yes people may think he is arrogant, but people think ND as a whole is arrogant when it comes to our football team.

Weis is classy, in my opinion. He's an alumnus, and he "gets it" better than any coach I've seen in my lifetime.

^ Yeah, lambasting HS kids on national radio shows a lot of class (nevermind Weis' HYPOCRISY).

And if this is true -

Marinelli was the defensive line coach in Tampa Bay when the Bucs beat the Patriots in the 2000 regular season opener and did a good job controlling New England's offense. After the game the Patriots' offensive coach, Charlie Weis, was overheard congratulating the Bucs' defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin.

"We knew all your calls, and you still stopped us," Weis said. "I can't believe it."

He couldn't believe it because the Patriots had videotaped all of the defensive signals in their last preseason game, which was against the Bucs.

I don’t think CHEATING constitutes as class either.

Btw, what’s the deal w/ Holtz getting even more loopy?

On ESPN Lou actually stated (with a straight face) that if ND loses the game to Michigan, that they would have a hard time going to a BCS game (Mark May’s reaction after Lou stated that was priceless).

Sorry you have such dislike for Coach Weis, k&s--you won't convince me until I "PERSONALLY" witness it! And, btw, I've learned thru the years-you just can't please everyone can you? The best in the land could be the coach at ND, but I am sure there would still be those to find fault with that person.
GO IRISH! Enough said!!
