[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] I was really scared that I wouldn’t get in because of all the college admissions talk that says you can’t blatantly say things about yourself. “Show, don’t tell” isn’t as strong of a rule as you’d think. Both my essay and my short answers contained some straightforward self-description and I think it just shows that you have a strong sense of who you really are. Show that you know that and you care about something bigger than yourself (service to others, etc.); they will respect & appreciate that.

Subjective:
Essays: Strong. Common App broke down a mission statement that I wrote on a leadership retreat. Notre Dame essays were my best I think. I elaborated on how I consider photography to be a different perspective on life.
Teacher Recs: Pretty strong, I imagine. I got my school president who I’m close with, I got a Notre Dame alum who I don’t know extremely well, and I got a teacher considers me to be one of her best students and I have a good relationship with her.
Counselor Rec: Once again, I would assume that it’s pretty strong. She said she’s not sending anyone from my school to Notre Dame again if I don’t get in.
Supplementary Material: none
Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): none

Personal
Location: Prince George’s County, Maryland

Awards: National Hispanic Scholar; Top Scholastic Newspaper in Maryland and D.C.; Featured profile in archdiocesan newspaper
Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Well, obviously I’m disappointed but at least I get another shot. Obviously my grades are lower than most EA acceptances but I felt that my extracurriculars/service/leadership would give me an advantage. Also, I come from a Holy Cross school, which is usually pretty beneficial to other HC schools, such as ND. Anyway, best of luck to all others who were deferred and congratulations to those accepted!
