Notre Dame EA Class of 2020

@VaMomma I’m not sure but all those who are invited to Reilly will receive an email on the 26th.

I’m figuring out an estimation arrival date for people in Cali or surrounding states (sad, but true). For anyone who has received their invitation letter in Cali, reveal yourselves (or in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, etc.)

I was deferred. I had a 34 ACT, a 4.63 weighted GPA, my dad went there and two of my cousins. I attended the summer scholars program and loads of other summer college programs. I was captain of the cross country team and had tons of other extra curriculars. I just don’t really understand.

jobrien19 Don’t lose hope. Remind yourself that deferred is not denied. Nobody outside the adcomm can really say exactly what they are looking for. All you can do is present yourself as the best candidate you can be. And, presuming you poured your heart into your supplemental essays, you have done what you can. I’m optimistic you will be accepted.

jobrien19, just curious what your intended major is. Thought maybe the new limits for Mendoza might have influenced the deferral decision.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted  I’m a freshman this year and if there’s any questions you have I would be more than happy to answer/convince you that this is the best university on the planet (because it is trust me!!).

And to anyone stressing, I applied RD with a pretty average ACT/GPA as far as admittance goes and not the most spectacular of ECs; goes to show that if you spent a lot of time on your essays hopefully it will pay off!

My intended major was political science actually

Thank you for your kind responses. It’s just frustrating to have to wait until April 1

Hi jobrien19- Just another quick response to give you some support. Last year at this time, I recall another poster with similar stats to yours ( he too, had family members/legacy) that was deferred. I can’ remember the exact screen name but it had “swimmer” in it. He was accepted in the RD round, so there is definitely a great chance you will be, too. I think he was from South Bend. If you are possibly from an area that draws a lot of ND applicants (South Bend and Chicago come to mind) that could play into the deferral. I believe he followed up with his admissions officer, etc, while still looking at other schools (as great as ND is, there are many, many excellent universities out there!). Good luck to you. These highly selective school admissions can be so finicky and some times there is no real answer as to “why”.

Nicobella - interested to know how you approached your essay and how you made yourself shine. We have a junior in HS and his dream school is Notre Dame…

Besides Hesburgh Yusko, has anyone received information on any merit-based scholarships? i.e. Notre Dame Scholar Award, Malpass Scholars Program, etc.

From their website:

“Recipients of merit-based awards are notified of their selection in early April.”

For reference:

oh great thank you! and besides Hesburgh Yusko there aren’t separate applications, right?

This thread is really confusing. Like some kids have a 31 and got pre-approved to Mendoza and others have a 34 and are getting denied/deferred. I get the holistic approach but I can’t make heads or tails of some of this, must mean the essays have a big impact. Either way this has been my dream school since I was 5 so I’ve been stalking this thread and I’m applied RD so I hope they like my essays. Good luck everyone else.

@mcfeeley15 That’s just how college decisions work. Sometimes it might appear random. I mean I got accepted to the likes of UC Berkeley, UCLA, Brown and Northwestern before ultimately deciding on Notre Dame but I did get rejected by USC.

@mcfeeley15 There is more to an application than just test scores. If Notre Dame wanted, they could pick kids with near perfect scores. But scores are just one piece of your application. There’s no logorithm to predict whether or not someone gets in. It’s not just the essays having a big impact. It’s the EC’s, the service, the interest, the classes you take, the grades you get, the teacher recs, etc. There is so much more to an applicant than just scores

@ChocolateSprinkl Yup! Everything other nomination to be a candidate for other scholarships is determined by the admissions people without a separate application as far as I know.

awesome thank you so much!! @BlackCat16
