georgetown: go to NDAdmissions on twitter, and scroll to about the 15th of December of last year. There is a picture that says “Early Action letters are in the mail” with the post: “signed, sealed, delivered.” Also, scroll to about mid-March, and a similar post is up about regular decision. I believe they will do the same thing, ND being so very much about tradition and all :D

also applying to both stanford and notre dame early action would be illegal because I believe Stanford is Restrictive early action which means you can’t apply early to any other private school (aka Notre Dame)

boo those trolls

Thanks Suzy’s Mom!

Thank you Wimmiett for calling out that error!

Georgetown14, why did you say you got a deferral when letters have not gone out?

^ I was talking about a different school. Sorry for the confusion.

@SuzysMom thank you so much! As mentioned, it means a lot that you took the time to bring some clarity to this process.

I called ND last Friday and was told the letters would not go out for at least another 10 days. We should know by Christmas is what I was told. Hopefully its a nice present for everyone

I would just like to point out that ND has NEVER sent acceptance letters earlier than other letters. All letters from ND are sent at the same time, so be wary of posters that say otherwise. Good luck to you all.

First of all, good luck to all of you! I hope to see you all here next year.

Second of all, don’t believe anyone who tells you that an admission decision letter told them that all acceptances will be received by a certain date. No admissions office wants to deal with the PR nightmare that could result from relying on the US Postal Service to deliver mail on a certain day. There will always be a few random people whose letters got hung up in the mail and arrive a little later than others’.

To whomever was distributing false information: please be respectful of all the applicants who are anxiously awaiting their decisions. They are already dealing with more than enough stress, and they don’t need the added stress.

How big a loser do you have to be to ■■■■■ college confidential to try to scam people? Go back to your basement and the grill cheese Mommy made you and bask in the glory of having incited a nanosecond of panic amongst a few already panicked high school seniors.

No problem! I see my kid so nervous, and I don’t like to think of everyone getting crazy over someone’s little “prank.” Good luck to everyone! Best bet right now is to check on ND admissions on twitter now and then starting Monday and see when they post. Hopefully, they will get them out sooner rather than later. Good luck to everyone – Go Irish! And blessings to all this Holiday season :)

For sure those people are lying… Why would they write that acceptance letters go out first? That’s BS, and ridiculous

So just to be clear, e-mail notifications are only for international students…?

Are people saying that we will receive the Notre Dame decision letter in our hands by around Christmas, or are they saying that the letters will be mailed out of the Notre Dame Admissions building at around Christmas?

The admissions office is saying the 17th. We don’t know if that means letters are being sent the 17th or received the 17th though. And they could actually be sending them earlier and they just are saying the 17th to get everyone off their backs for a little while. We just won’t know until the letters start arriving. Someone says that South Bend and Chicago residents get their letters a day before, so when I get mine, I’ll let everyone know so you can expect it the next day.

FWIW I still believe that, if past practices are any indication, letters will go out on or around the 19th and South Bend/NW Indiana residents should receive them the following day. (At least that is what has happened the past three years to people in the SB/NWI area who have applied.) With that in mind, most people should receive them by Christmas. As one poster noted, though, you are subject to timely sorting and delivery by the USPS, which can be, well, not very timely. I mailed a small package to my ND daughter on 12/2, and she didn’t receive it until 12/11. Another that I mailed on 12/5 got there the next day. I don’t know how many people on this board are in the middle of finals, but I can’t stress how important it is to keep focused. Hard, I know, but important. If you are deferred, those grades will start to matter a great deal. Last year, my daughter found out the day her finals began that she was deferred, yet somehow maintained her focus. She is now finishing her first semester at ND. Good luck to all!

I don’t think that finals week have any relevance on when they will send the letters. My guess is that it’s just been a coincidence. If admissions say the 17th, then I would say that at the latest, they will send them on the 17th.

how long would it take us to receive these letters?

stjohnson… 1-4 days, depending on where you live. But, there are always “lost” letters in the snail mail that can take longer.
