Notre Dame Leadership Seminar 2017

How important are the SAT scores compared to extra circulars, essays, and grades? My SAT scores aren’t that great but everything is else is very strong

I just discovered this program today (thanks, collegeconfidential :D), and it seems super interesting! I’m planning on applying since the application doesn’t seem too long. Good luck to everyone!

@golf111 Scores are pretty important, but not the whole factor in the decision. As many others have said, diversity (your ethnicity, location, interests, experiences), essays, and other academic stats are also extremely vital to your application.

@emmaka I am convinced that stats don’t matter that much. I think that essays, recs, diversity, and EC/awards all play a huge role in the final decision. ND understands that applicants aren’t even halfway through their junior year of high school so test scores imo aren’t weighted too heavily. Good luck! Don’t doubt yourself.

How many essays did you guys write? Only one is showing up for me

There should be two different essays: one specifically for the seminar you listed as first choice and one that everyone receives, “what was your greatest accomplishment…?”

Hey

I just visited this thread to get information about the seminar after applying for the Global Issues seminar, but I am overwhelmed by the amazing stats that everyone has… I am a little bit worried if I will not get accepted!

Here are my stats:

Currently going to a international school in Korea, Presbyterian and Asian

GPA(W): 3.90/4.00
SAT - 1460(RW:760/M:700)
SATII(WH) - 730
School does not rank, but guessing still in top 10%. It is a small, but an EXTREMELY competitive school
Got a 5 in APWH last yr, taking APUSH, Econ, Lang this yr(Maximum AP for our school is 3 at junior yr, with a total of 8 over the whole high school yr)

EC:

Secretary General for school MUN team, went to 36 MUN conferences over the past four years as delegate, chair, or secretariat, won awards almost everytime when I went as a delegate
Founding President for the Knowledge Bowl team
NHS Founding member
Student Council elected officer during grade 10
Badminton
Representative of Korea to GCIMUN
Debate finalist/champion in korean debate competitions, and also went to a lot of public speaking competitions
Finalist for research paper competitions(focusing in IR: Conflict Prevention and Mediation)

I already submitted my application with my essays and arranged everything with my school. I am very excited for this event because it perfectly matches with what I want to focus on as a career! I just want to know if I am a competitive enough candidate for the program…

Wishing the best of luck for everyone applying!

P.S Regarding FERPA, I totally misunderstood the amendment and said no in waiving my rights. I sent an email to the admission team that I would waive my rights, but as a Korean citizen, I am not really sure at all if I even apply to the circumstances of FERPA. Would saying no in this case negatively affect me, or even affect me at all?

What time specifically is the application due?

T1bumppack, you are more than qualified statistically for the program. At this point your essays, diversity, and eztracurriculars Iplay a much larger role than any academic stats. Last year there were many people with significantly lower scores that were accepted. Don’t worry too much as your grades and test scores are excellent.

@russianolive Jan 30th, as I am aware of!
@matt465789 thank you  I am only hoping for the best of luck… btw then did you attend NDLS last year?

12 more days to submit applications! Best of luck to all applicants this year.

Hey all!

I just found out about this program yesterday. Do you think there’s still enough time for me to apply? D: This sounds like a great opportunity and I’d love to be a part of it.

It’s never too late!

Do you guys know if it is due at 11:59 on the 30th?

Also, do any of you guys have any recommendations for summer programs similar to this one?

@russianolive All applications are due by 11:59PM, Eastern Time, on Monday, January 30th. So if you lived on the West Coast, for example, your actual due date would be by 8:59PM, on Sunday January 29th.

You mean 8:59PM on Monday, January 30th, right?

No @matt465789, 8:59PM on Sunday January 29th for those living in the Pacific Time Zone, PST (aka Hawaii, California, Oregon, etc.) is the accurate time. Notre Dame sets a deadline in accordance to the Eastern Time Zone, which is three hours ahead of PST. Therefore, the 11:59PM deadline stated on the website is, in reality, three hours earlier for PST residents, or 8:59PM on Sunday January 29th. If 8;59PM was the deadline on Monday, January 30th, that would give an unfair 21 hour advantage to PST residents. [-X

I’m sorry. I’m still confused. If the set time is 11:59 PM on Monday, January 30th eastern time, and PST is three hours behind, wouldn’t the due time for PST people be three hours behind the eastern time (8:59 PM Monday, January 30th).

Also, Hawaii citizens use HST time- not PST time, right? Maybe I’m just really confused  HST is five hours behind the eastern time zone for my Hawaiian friends, if I’m not losing my mind.
