@ny2020 I’m from Indiana…I live only about 2 hours away from Notre Dame. I imagine my complete lack of geographical, cultural, and religious diversity had a lot to do with my rejection.
@ny2020 doesnt mean you can’t get into ND university but just for this summer program I believe it would have been difficult for you to get in.
@annachronism Same here. Indiana, Christian, and white. So the chances were against me with diversity. However, I have not received the physical letter yet.
Online I have the confirmation of attendance form but I still haven’t received a physical letter yet :-S
guys if you don’t want to take my word for it about diversity being key to getting into this particular program look back at post from @lovethekiller who went to this program last yr. I am sure a few that aren’t diverse with amazing stats but for the most part I am sure it’s mostly kids who are diverse with great stats. need both to get in I am guessing. son going this summer so we will know for sure when he tells me about the other participants.
Pretty much everyone I met was brilliant, and stunningly different-- I’m talking every state, race, and religion.
I’m ecstatic that I got in, but I’m starting to worry because I was definitely a pretty diverse applicant, ethnically/geographically/religiously. From the looks of this thread, I feel like I’m really not all that great and that diversity saved me a lot. Which is pretty scary because this acceptance has given me a little bit more confidence regarding college admissions, but if diversity is what did it for me then I’ll prob fall flat on my face a few months from now.
For the people who did get in, what were your basic stats? I just want to compare out of curiosity. For me it was 2210 SAT, 4.0 unweighted GPA, and rank 4/800.
@Swinter I think my diversity had a decent weight in my acceptance as well, but my stats are pretty fair. Yours look very solid too!
208 PSAT
My school doesn’t unweight GPA/put it out of 4.0, but on the collegeboard scale its a 4.0
No rank
4 AP’s total, all Honors Classes
Selective High School
just received the thin envelope. rejection letter dated march 9th. 4.17 gpa with 790 math 690 written 620 english = 2100 - first sitting. blue ribbon public school - competitive. top 10% of class. class president. athlete. white, catholic. northeast. only 2 AP classes as AP tract is geared mostly towards senior year here. 3 years of mostly honors classes. 4 scheduled AP classes for next year. makes me wonder if i should reconsider my restrictive early action application i was planning for in August.
My son was accepted from California. 4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.78 weighted. 1/125 class rank. 228 PSAT (Hasn’t taken SAT yet). Catholic school. Lots of ECs. I don’t know about diversity - although he’s half Asian (which may be a drawback next year when he applies to schools in California). But, I think geography played a big role. I can’t imagine there’s a great number of kids coming from CA. He’s also very involved at our parish and his school’s campus ministry. So - who knows.
In any event, I wouldn’t read too much into if you plan to apply next year. His friend applied last year for the summer leadership institute and was rejected, but then applied early action this year and was admitted.
agree with cowboybruin. just because you didnt get into this program that says on their website goal is diversity doesnt mean you won’t get into ND. However, study and retake the SAT’s. probably will go up with superscore . Being white, catholic, NE is not diverse for this program. don’t get disheartened. has nothing to do with whether you can get into ND
@momof2eagles This may not be your intention, but there seems to be an underlying tone of gloating with your posts. Congratulations to those accepted.
what ?where are you reading that? i actually have told people its not about “not being good enough” rather its about diversity in this program. I also recommended numerous other programs to look at for people that didnt get in also low cost./affordable. Not sure why you were reading anything differently in fact i said probably the reason my son got in was diversity. i also told people just because you don’t get into this program doesn’t mean you can’t get into ND university
realityabout diversity in this program is far from gloating. its just the FACTS. yes you also have to have good stats with diversity.
I’m sure the essays/recommendation also play a big role. 2200 SAT and a 4.0 only get you so far. My PSAT compared to whoever else has given theres in this thread is considerably lower, and I’m diverse but only religion and maybe geographic-wise, so there are other factors at play in getting an acceptance.
I didn’t get in and I had >2300 and a 35
my GPA wasn’t great, but still A range
my reccs were solid, I got into multiple other programs with similar acceptance rates with those reccs
just for future reference
Just got the actual letter today!! I’m from NJ and it’s dated March 9th! You should all be receiving yours within the next few days! Wish you all good luck!
What site are you logging into to see your results? I did not bookmark it.
@dancing1 This is the one I’ve been using https://enrollment.nd.edu/account/login
Can folks who were accepted share what state (or country) they’ll be coming from? My D is coming from Ohio.
My confirmation form came up! I’m a white agnostic female from Kansas. PSAT 234 GPA 4.00/4.49 pretty good ecs and essay I think
