Notre Dame Leadership Seminars

This program looks really cool! I'm curious if anyone's ever done it before, because it looks like they're looking for a diverse group of students: but does that mean they're just looking for all sorts of people, or are they looking for mostly minorities/underrepresented groups?

Thanks!

Bump!

Does anyone know how selective it is?
I am a white male from southern Minnesota.

It seems targeted toward diversity, but they will take take applications from (and still admit) Caucasians.

The program is free, including transportation (that’s very nice) and includes one college credit. This means there’s almost certainly a competitive selection process.

I emailed them for more information. They said that they look for any type of applicant.

However, they mention “spiritual” and “social catholic teaching” alot. Is there an emphasis on Catholicism? I’m jewish, so that may get kind of awkward if it’s heavily catholic…

Well, Notre Dame is a Catholic university, so you should expect some Catholic presence/influence. Of course, they welcome people with all sorts of religious beliefs. I doubt it will be quite so strong as, say, Bob Jones University.

Okay, thanks!

Did any of you guys get into the program? I applied for this summer and I’m dying to know what it is like!

I applied too; I can’t wait to hear the results. Although I’m fairly confident my application wasn’t strong enough :/

Wait, did you already hear results?

On of our teens applied. I think they said they would hear in April sometime??? Not sure.

No, amplified I think you’re reading applicants from last year. We should get our acceptance/rejection after April 15th. What makes you think your app wasnt strong enough?

Yeah I’m unsure about my qualifications too. Plus my mom talked to someone who works for the Pre-College department and they said they look for diverse and underrepresented students. I’m white so I hope that doesn’t hurt my chances. They also said they would only be taking 120 students, 60 male and 60 female. I’m not sure if that’s for each seminar or for the whole program though.

Uruana, thank you for clarifying! I have no “diversity,” as Stephanie said, and I don’t have much to make me stand out. But I’m hoping for the best! Good luck to both of you.

Yeah its 40 students per seminar (20 m, 20 f) so 120 total. I think I’m okay for diversity, but I dont have really outstanding test scores or GPA (good, just not that impressive). I guess we’ll see soon…Good luck!!

Also, I havent taken the SAT or ACT because I wasn’t smart enough to register last semester and the earliest I could take this year was May…Do you think that will have a big influence?

Well the fact that the SAT and ACT weren’t require seems like they will consider other tests just the same, so I’m pretty sure you’re fine. And wow now thinking about it 40 people each seminar is not a lot! D;
I’m not at all diverse, but I did take the SAT once and got an 1900 and a Biology Subject Test and got an 800. Other than that, I have really only one leadership position, and since this is a leadership seminar, I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

Wow those are great scores! And well, do you have something unique about you? I think they’re not only looking at diversity in ethnicity, location, etc., but also in skills and interests.

Hahah thank you, from other scores I’ve seen on this site they didn’t seem that great XD But I’m in marching band, and I mentioned that right now is a difficult time for my family financially since my father just broke his femur and has polio. But other than that, I’m pretty normal. hahah

Yeah I have to remind myself that CC people are only a few of the ones applying, otherwise I get too discouraged :stuck_out_tongue: Well that’s something very unique to you that could add a really interesting perspective to the group, so don’t loose hope  I hope you dad feels better and recovers quickly!

Has anyone heard about their acceptance/rejection decision yet?

On another thread it was mentioned that:

 1. Decisions are mailed (not emailed) and generally post marked April 15
 2. There is a waitlist option (not just accept/reject)

Not sure if the above is accurate for this year, but that is what was posted by others based on what they have been told of the past cycle of this program.

Good Luck!
