Notre Dame Regular Decision Thread - Class of 2023

Congrats @schrunchies86. ND Marching Band is so much fun!

@hpsca my son doesnā€™t like to post his info (he feels it is bragging) so I can post only limited stats. SAT 1490, W GPA 4.09, UW 3.77 estimated, he had 1520 PSAT and is NMF as well as Finalist in Questbridge, Gates (result still pending, but 300 out of 600 will get this award so I am ecstatic that he made the cut to 600). Catholic HS.

@hpsca and, thank you

@bigmamao Congratulations to your son and welcome again to the Notre Dame family! Your son will be doing very well here.

Hi everyone! Here to tell all future Notre Dame applicants to not really worry about the stats when it comes to standardized testing because I am an example of getting in and not getting that good 33-35 scores everyone strives to get. But I will still share some of what I got:

ACT: 31 (didnā€™t take SAT because I didnā€™t really see a point)
GPA: 4.605 W idk my UW
Rank: 11/261
EC: Dominican Preacher, Camp Counselor for 5-6 then 7-8 y/o, Lax (sophomore/junior year), Volleyball (freshman), Youth Group Mass Coordinator, Stage Techs Deck Chair and Co Teen Producer, nationals qualifier for Impromptu Speaking (but I couldnā€™t go since my school never sends anyone even if they qualify), as well as an Intern for a micro finance company that works with Latin American farmers! No, I didnā€™t just file papers, I did some actual projects as well! And Operation Snowball Teen Staff Leader.
I am also a bi-racial (black and white) Catholic female

What I think really got me in was my continued interest for ND. I got a B+ in one of my classes last semester, and ND saw that. Yet they looked beyond that. I attended the 2017 Summer Scholars Program and talked about that in my essay. I made sure they knew how much I wanted to go here. I also had my teacher (an ND alumni) write me a letter of rec. For me, it was all about the essays. Itā€™s not all about stacking your ECā€™s or being the perfect student with perfect scores man, which I have seen several parents and students comment on here thinking that it is. Donā€™t let and stats, scores, or anyone elseā€™s profile trip you up. Be you when you apply and see what happens. Thatā€™s what I did.

^ Also, I got a 24 on my first ACTā€¦mainly cause Iā€™m not the best at standardized texts taking but I kept practicing and raised my English from a 21 to a 35 and my Science from a 19 to a 33.

@mchs0422 CONGRATS on being accepted.

D was deferred EA and accepted RD. Retook the ACT and superscored to a 35, 4.82 GPA, lots of extracurriculars and service. ND has been her first choice since long before the application process and her LOCI showed that

Congrats

First, congrats on all the acceptances. Second, for all the ones who did not get accepted, you still have raised some amazing kids who have done extraordinary things for their young age. Donā€™t lose sight of it.

My thoughts on legacies - the denial posts are heart wrenching to hear. Notre Dame has been co-ed for 40+ years and Domers are marrying Domers producing very bright kids. Being a legacy used to be an advantage regarding admissions. In my opinion, it has minimal advantage now because all these successful ND Legacies have very successful, driven kids who have drank the kool-aid and bleed blue and gold. The bar has risen in the legacy admissions pool. Good bad or indifferent, this is the new reality (has been for some time). Sure sounds like ND could use a softer approach for a legacy if they are denied. Also have a sophomore currently at ND.

DD accepted! 1500 SAT, valedictorian, 4.5/4.0 WGPA, 4.0/4.0 UWGPA, lots of strong ECs, lots of community service, Catholic female, business major.

@Kcraws Congratulations to you and your daughter!

Congrats to all #ND2023, canā€™t wait to meet you. Have a question though, already been a week and Iā€™ve received no communication about my financial aid package. Does anyone here know when they come out?

@ZlatanLion Presuming that you have submitted FAFSA and CSS before the priority deadline, you should expect information by e-mail within the next few days, followed by an mail delivery a week or so later. Are you certain that your Financial Aid Information on file with ND is complete?

@ZlatanLion, I called this afternoon and was told that FA info will be emailed on a rolling basis, starting tomorrow. You should receive news very soon (provided you submitted everything you had to)!

has anyone received anything in the mail yet?

@acpv24 My daughter received her acceptance letter.

@acpv24 I received my admissions packet yesterday in the mail if thatā€™s what youā€™re asking

Yes thatā€™s what I meant, thanks so much Iā€™m still waiting for mine

Yes, a couple or so days ago (but we live in South Bend so that is often same day delivery)
