Notre Dame Scholars Award Program

I just got an email about the “Notre Dame Scholars Award Program” saying that:
You are among the brightest and most promising students in our applicant pool. Because of your highly competitive academic record, demonstrated leadership, and service to community, I am delighted to nominate you on behalf of the University’s Enrollment Division for the Notre Dame Scholars Award Program. This merit scholar program provides recipients $25,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study, for a total of $100,000. Notre Dame Scholars also participate in leadership development and enrichment opportunities.
Does this mean anything?

Nope, it means nothing

Short of getting arrested or expelled, you’re probably set for Notre Dame. Good luck with the scholarship!

Does anybody know how many students get nominated for this scholarship application?

Only a few weeks ago the website (http://financialaid.nd.edu/prospective-students/funding/merit-based-assistance/the-notre-dame-scholar-award-program/) indicated that they awarded up to 10 of these scholarships, but the site now doesn’t specify how many - not sure If that means there will be more or less or the same, but might would assume they might award up to 25 of these scholarships based on the number awarded in 2013-2014. It would seem that ND only “nominates” a number of applicants equal to the number of scholarships - such that if you’ve been “nominated” the scholarship likely is yours in that you aren’t competing against others, but they still want to interview you or get some follow-up information from you.

@4X529s thank you! As for the second part of your reply, what makes you certain that they nominate only the number of potential receiving students?

@aoYale2020 I don’t know for sure about the ND Scholars program, but I do know that’s how they do it for the Stamps program, and I’m just guessing based on the phrasing on the website (“eligible students may be contacted directly with a request for additional information, e.g. resume, phone interview, essay, etc., prior to selection”) that it might be the same for all the programs other than Hesburgh-Yusko.

Ok thanks! When do they email stamps decisions?

The Stamps nominees were notified in February.

Ok thank you for your insight
