@sopita Best of luck and success! There possibly might be above average movement from the waiting list this year, as some students/parents may opt for closer to home in-state publics, given the circumstances. Make sure to follow up with your AO, make your deposit at your backup if required by May 1st and be prepared to accept on short notice (within 2 weeks) if the ND option will open up.

@hpcsa Thank you so much!!! If you have any suggestions or tips on how to get off the waiting list, I’m all ears!!! Stay safe!

@sopita You are very welcome! Here are some waiting list suggestions I recently shared on another thread:

All luck and success!

@sopita, @hpcsa has some of the best information on ND in this forum. I would say while I would not get my hopes up and prepare to hear no, but be pleasantly surprised and hopeful it could be a yes, there are many ways to succeed—remember that. I personally transferred into ND. However, Notre Dame is not perfect, and try and look at it as an alternate path. There is a school out there for you (maybe ND, maybe not) and make the most of it. Some of my best friends are from my old school, and they still are. Even if you decide to transfer, don’t waste a year thinking about going somewhere else, make the most of every stop and embrace the journey! Good luck!

Is there a way to tell how many people have accepted their spot at the university? Do we think the waitlist will be very used this year?

@plantyourgarden, I don’t think there’s any way for us students to know. I think that many students who were accepted to ND regular decision who, under normal circumstances would accept the offer of admission, might decline due to issues relating to COVID-19.

For students on the Notre Dame waiting list the continued May 1st confirmation deadline will truly be advantageous:

“Reply to Offer
To reply to our offer of admission and reserve your place in the 2020 entering class, please visit your applicant status portal. The confirmation deadline is May 1, 2020.”

Only shortly after the confirmation deadline has passed will the situation for waitlisted students become clearer. Moving the deadline to June 1st, as some other colleges/universities have done, would be contra-productive in this sense and somewhat unfair to students with continued commitment to the university, currently finding themselves on the waiting list. Let’s hope May 1st will be that date, at least as far as Notre Dame is concerned! Best of luck and success to All!

@plantyourgarden I would also advise sending a follow up email or note expressing interest. This will be a unique year where if I were to guess, @hpcsa is correct, the yield for out of state students will be much lower. That is, with the coronavirus, cancelling in person visits and finances being tighter, I think many kids and parents will opt to stay at a quality state university rather than come to ND. ND’s big sell is getting kids on campus as well, so I would expect a lower yield. That is good news for you, but keep expressing interest so if they do go to waitlist, they pick you!

Does waitlist movement happen right after May 1st or a week or two later?

@imbadatcollege Last year waitlist calls began to go out on Friday, May 3rd, I believe. I would think this year the date will be Monday, May 4th, if not even before then. Best of luck and success!

My stats as well, I don’t have every detail on here just some general highlights:

ACT: 34
Weighted GPA (out of 4.0): ~4.5
Rank: N/A
AP: 6 APs, a 5 and a 4 on the ones I’ve finished.
Senior Year Course Load: 4 AP(above), 3 general classes (no honors or better for them)
Major Awards:
National Merit Commended Scholar

Extracurriculars:
Outdoors Club President
Community Service through school, probably 150+ hours, including major service trips

Intended Major: Engineering
Highschool: Private Catholic School

Hi everyone,

I’m a senior at Notre Dame this year and wanted to share some insights on a program available to some students on the ND waitlist. If you haven’t heard of the Gateway Program, here’s some tips on what it is and what it entails: https://youtu.be/67fHfxVWIA4. Your regional admissions counselor should have more information on it as well — it’s a hidden gem that around 75 students participate in to gain entry every year.

Best of luck!

Has anyone else gotten a call from their admissions counselor today?

I did! My phone was on Do Not Disturb and I missed the call! Does anyone know what it’s for???

I got one too! My counselor emailed me and said they were asking each student how interested they still were in Notre Dame. I called him back and he told me I was accepted!!!

Congratulations @joleigh42 !!! That’s amazing!

What area are you in?

Thank you! I thought it was kind of weird that they sent out some announcements even before the official enrollment date of May 1st. I had even just emailed my admissions counselor a couple days ago and he said they were not expecting to send out any notifications until the dust of May 1st had settled.
