In an effort to consolidate all news and results, including acceptances, about Notre Dame's waiting list for this fall's entering class, please post that news here and only here.

Spoke to receptionist at ND today… they will not release any projections regarding whether they will be going to the waitlist. She insisted that they would not know until the middle of May??? I was a bit abrupt when I suggested that some schools had already announced that they were reaching their waitlist.

Spoke with my counselor today. Very tight lipped about anything.

Somebody posted this today on the ND 2014 Facebook page:

“dunno if anyone else is on the waitlist, but I called yesterday and they said letters would be going out mid-end of May”

I’m getting really, really nervous.
Best of luck to everyone else who’s on the list.

mid-end of May?? that sucks… last year the reps started calling people May 6, but that is pretty early I guess. I’m out of town the last week of May. I hope the letter comes before I leave! Fingers crossed for everyone!

My counselor mentioned a minimum wait of two more weeks to hear anything.

Typically, a phone call from admissions will be made followed by an offer of admission that will be overnighted. My daughter did not receive her offer until the beginning of June. Best of luck to all that are waiting!!

Momtofour… what year was it that your daughter was taken off the waitlist after june?

Is it unusual that ND’s said they’ll be waiting till mid-May before they announce waitlist news? I’m wondering whether or not they are even going to go to the waitlist…?

Hang in there, everybody! :)

I am wondering if ND is not just waiting to see how many acceptances they lose to other schools before they start making their WL offers. It seemsreasonable to expect that a few ND acceptees would be offered spots at other schools that they would prefer??? I suppose it might get quite frustrating for admissions to have to go through several rounds. Still, I am very anxious (for my son) and feel a little annoyed that ND has not given any indication at all whether they are even close or beyond their targeted class size.

Krusso51, Sorry I was not on the boards to answer your question yesterday. This was June of 2007. They took about 150 that year but it extended well into June. The prior year they did not take anyone from the waitlist. They had about 100 students more than planned accept their offer. 2008 and 2009 they went deep into the waitlist. Make yourself known to your admissions counselor. Be in touch with them periodically. They want to hear from you and want to admit those that will come if given the offer. Write them a well thought out letter about what you can contribute to the university. Above all, be patient. If it is meant to be it will happen.

Thank you, momtofour. We have written and my son called personally. I do hope this makes a difference. ND seems to be a little different … they are very formal in their letters to students, etc. They are very tight lipped about their admissions yield. My son has had his sights on ND since before 8th grade… so I am hoping.

As time goes on, do not be discouraged. Waitlist candidates who receive an offer typically have about 5 business days to make a decision. It really takes a while to get decisions back from the students. In the letter my daughter wrote to ND, she emphasized that if given an offer she would attend. They really want to extend offers to those that will come so it is important to convey that interest. As I said previously, my daughter did not hear until into June and it kept going for weeks. Hang in there…

bump, I am too anxious to let this thread get by unnoticed (sorry to all those who anticipate to learn something from this, I got nothing)

Emailed Notre Dame today. My admit counselor emailed me back, and said it didn’t look like they would be taking to many off the wait list, if anyone at all. She said a lot of people had accepted admission to Notre Dame.

Taylor 29, did your counselor indicate when any decisions would be made? What part of the country are you from?

I am from Southern California.
My admission counselor
Thank you for your email and your continue interest in Notre Dame. The waitlist is still very uncertain. We will probably begin looking at the waitlist soon; however, given our confirmation rate, it does not appear we will be taking many people off this year. You may continue to keep us updated with academic factors should you need to add anything else to your file.

Thanks for your email. We will be in touch!

Taylor 29… thank you. We are from Western New York… I am wondering whether ND will be looking to fill spots regionally. I find it interesting that my sonst counselor told him specifically NOT to send in any additional academic information.

The waiting is very difficult while trying to feel excited about the school you have committed to.

^ Who is the admissions counselor for Western NY? Is it the same as for the Capital Region NY area?

Letter my daughter received today from ND rep:

We are moving to the waitlist, however we’ll only be taking a very small number of students. We do appreciate your patience and updates, but please make sure you have secured a spot at another university in the meantime. This shouldn’t be an indication of your movement on the waitlist, but more as a precaution due to the uncertainty involved in the situation. "
