So I was unhappy with my score (1960) 680M 650W 630CR, not bad for some but not up to CC standards. This was the first time I took the test with very minimal studying.

Now I plan to retake it on Dec. 1, can the CC community give me any advice on 1 or 2 books to buy? I have one of the ones released by College Board but I was curious if anyone can offer any advice?

Please help, I need to raise this score to around 2200-2300!

Your username makes me laugh, just so you know. :)

If you’ve already got the Blue Book, my strong recommendation is Barron’s “SAT 2400” book. It doesn’t have any practice tests, but you’ve got the BB for that. It’s the perfect study guide for people who don’t have time for piddling advice such as “remember to use process of elimination” and are scoring well above average (as you are) but need some good strategies to ascend into the 700+ range.

Also–Barron’s “SAT 2400” book also has a really, really great list of vocab words in the back to study. It isn’t insanely long (probably around 300 words), but I saw a HUGE percentage of those words on the SAT. It was uncanny. Whether or not you buy the Barron’s book, make sure you have some sort of vocab list from which to make flash cards. Improving you vocabulary is imperative not only for a raised CR score but also for a strong essay.

Oh, and by the way, BB + Barron’s got me a 2310.

You are asking for a pretty big bump, most scores dont go up that much.

My study formula:
- Test for about 15 min (focus on weaknesses, but cover all question types)
- Score yourself
- Review wrong answers (15 min)
- Consult study guides for tips on this question type (15 min)
- Repeat this nightly

If you track your scores you should be able to predict how much of an increase to expect. GL

My scores will go up that much because I know they can, I had a horrible test. I panicked late in on the CR and Writing and miss-bubbled on the math. Mostly I just need to roll through a lot of math questions and study a lot of CR and W. Oh and I had Baron’s 2400 So ill review their tips and study their vocab! Thanks!

For the “Barrons 2400” book is it practice problems or just tips or both? I’m considering buying it since you said it really helped you I’m trying to raise my math from 620 to 700 by December

@mandiej and I meant Barons*
