Now What?

I submitted my deposit yesterday for marshall. Now, what documents will I receive. Will I also receive my visa papers (I am an international). I have been waitlisted at another school. USC is not my top choice school(sorry if I offend you). The school I was waitlisted at is. However, I do love the trojan spirit and would be very pleased to attend if I dont get in at the other school. Suppose I do get in, do I have to inform USC or do i just keep quiet and let things go. I know that I will lose my $300 anyway as the other school will inform waitlistees only after May1.

Why not tell the school you are waitlisted at (i.e. not USC) that you have another strong offer and are not sure how to handle deposits should you get in?

I would also advise calling your first-choice school and respectfully inquiring as to where your standing on the waislist is, if they can tell you. You can e-mail admissions too. You might just tell your first-choice that you naturally had to accept your back-up school & are unsure about the visa paper process as a wait-listee.

I would also call/e-mail USC admissions and ask them to explain their process for your visa papers.

Good luck!

I was waitlisted at NYU. On the NYU admissions forums (it is run by the nyu admission people, not the cc forum), the person has advised another waitlistee like myself to accept at another school and pay the deposit. I am just hoping for the best. It has been my dream to go to Stern. However, I also came to know about a beautiful college called USC (i did not know anything about it when I applied except that it has great standing in the minds of many). It will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first college acceptance . What other papers will I now receive? And, will I lose the $30 housing deposit too if I dont attend USC? If so, will housing assignment be given to somebody else? I do not want to spoil another persons chances for housing If i get in at NYU

I agree-ask NYU where you are on the wait list and what your chances are to be accepted because you have another strong offer.

krispykreme, As I’ve read in USC literature - you will loose the $300 commitment deposit and the $30 nonrefundable housing deposit should you get into NYU. It’s nice you’re worried about someone else’s spot for housing, but trust me – if you pull out, some other happy student will find out they got the spot you had!

To get info on the specificis of VISA paperwork etc I would e-mail USC directly. This information is too important to not get the specifics directly from the school.

Should you find yourself at USC in Fall, don’t be too disappointed. It’s a wonderful University!

@doame

I am sure that I will not be disappointed at USC. I even feel that the rest of USC might be better than the rest of NYU (rest = university - b schools). However, i feel even many loyal trojans wll agree that stern is on another level compared to marshall. I do not want to start another USC marshall vs NYU stern thread.I just hope it is good eough should I not get in at Stern. I am going to hope for the best. Thanks for your help

USC has a wonderful business school. If you are able to look long term, my guess is that if you want to end up in California, you are better off at USC. If you want to end up in NY, than NYU.

I am only waitlisted at NYU. nothing is guarenteed. As of now, I am a Trojan because I have paid my deposit.I do not think that USc means you work in california while NYU means you work in NYC. There must be something more than that to a college degree. However, while stern is great in the east coast and marshall in the west coast I think Stern has a greater reputation in the west than does marshall in the east. Anyways, now I am a Trojan. So, Fight On!

It is a generality, but I think that companies are going to look for local talent before hiring someone from the opposite coast because companies don’t want to pay relocation expenses
if they don’t have to. This is not USC vs. NYU, but just the idea that if a company has an opening, it will be more cost effective to hire someone from the same area (i.e. not pay for a plane ticket for an interview, not pay relocation expenses).

yeah maybe. I see your point. If I was a head of a company in California, I would first look at local talent. However, I might not fill 100% of my openings with local talent. People from other states may bring with them diverse experiences that may help a company.

I know someone who had a summer internship with goldman sachs in NY. I think if you take advantage of your connections, know how to network, and figure out how to sell yourself, you’re not limited by your location.

I have got into NYU stern off the waitlist and have decided that I will be going there. What do I do now. I have paid the $300 deposit + $30 for housing. Should I talk to USC and tell them about this? I know I will lose the money.

just call admissions office and let them know

Congratulation on your admittance to NYU krispykreme.

You can go to USCs website and e-mail admissions as well if a phone call would be difficult for you from out of the country…

Best of luck!
