accepted to USC but...

Hi is there anyone who can help me out? I was admitted to USC, which is one of my top choices, but waitlisted to Gtown, which is another top choice of mine. I honestly didn't think i had any chance of getting into Gtown's SFS because of how competitive it is, and truly believed that USC was where i was going to go for sure. But now that i found out i'm waitlisted, it seems that i have to take a big risk with Gtown or play it safe and stick with USC. the problem is that I have to reply to USC by May 1st, but Gtown's notifications for those on the waitlist don't come out until May 15th. Does this mean that if i keep myself on Gtown's waitlist i would have to reject my acceptance to USC? And if i don't get a spot in Gtown (i heard the chances of students on the waitlist being accepted is pretty slim), how would i be able to enroll myself in USC or any of the other colleges that accepted me? Wouldn't it be too late? I don't know what to do! :(

You can put down your deposit at USC and get on GTown’s waitlist at the same time. If you get in to GTown, you can enroll there and tell USC you’re not coming.

Like Grumpy said, put down your deposit at USC and stay on the waitlist. If you get into GTown and decide to take the spot, you will lose your deposit at USC. However, this does save a spot for you at USC if you don’t get into GTown off the waitlist.

thanks for the advice! should i still send in my housing requests to usc, just as i would do if i were attend for sure?

Yes. You’d only forfeit the $45 fee and if you are already willing to forfeit the deposit, this should be acceptable for you too. You do not want to join the housing line after everyone else!!

yummi,
This comes up each year about waiting lists. Do check at Georgetown how many were taken from the waiting list the past two years. It is sad when some colleges have four or five hundred on a waiting list and only expect to pull four or five students.

Check with your Georgetown counselor and find out if there is a “preferred” waiting list.
