I will be taking D to NPD at MICA this Sunday. NPD starts at 1 pm with registration beginning at 12:30 pm. Or you can go to the MICA open house with various discussions, tours, etc. that begins at 10 am, with registration for the open house and NPD starting at 9:30. Even though D isn't interested in attending MICA, it seems that this would be the way to go. She would be registered and then we would have stuff to do instead of waiting in line to register at 12:30. From what I have read here, people stand in line for hours just to register. Does this make sense? Thanks!

Not sure how to post links, but I will try to post the link to the schedule for NPD at MICA.
National Portfolio Day in Baltimore

Hi! I’ll be there too, but I’m just going to the open house. People stand in line for hours so that they will be able to get in line quickly for the schools they want to get reviews from. Often popular schools have 1-4 hour lines if you don’t do this.

We’ll be there too. People get there early in the morning to start waiting in lines. It can be nuts. This will be our 3rd and final year.

debbi801 - since you have done this before, does it make sense to go to the MICA open house so that we register early for NPD? Otherwise we can’t even register for NPD until 12:30. I would assume by registering early, we would be near the front of the line to get in once they open their doors? I understand once in the lines can be long for the schools. There are a few name Universities that we want to have see her portfolio and then we can get in any short line for feedback. D is only looking at regular colleges, not stand alone art schools, so we don’t have to worry about the lines for RISD or Cooper.

mdmom, I would definitely recommend getting there for early registration. You don’t have to do the open house if you don’t want to. The first year we went, we did the :30 registration and it was a mad house. So last year, we registered early and then hung out in the cafe across the street from the registration, which was the same building that Pratt, etc. were located in.

This year, we have one goal and that’s Cooper. After that, anything else is gravy.

We’ve done the small line thing each year after meeting with a few big schools. It’s been hugely beneficial for my son to get those critiques.
