I talked to a MICA representative at NPD and he seemed to like my stuff and ever since then I have been getting a lot of information from MICA in the mail. Today I received an invitation to apply to MICA early and get an early admission decision. They said it is "invitation only" and only offered to students that appear to have a lot of potential. I don't know if this is actually anything special or something they send to a lot of people and attempt to make it appear exclusive. Has anyone else received one, or know anything about this?
Thanks

My d got one, too. And I’m not even sure that she talked to them at NPD because she is not planning to apply. Maybe she talked to them last year…but I don’t think she did this year!
Not that there’s anything bad about MICA at all, she’s looking more at University-based programs.

I received one when I went to NPD last year. It’s a great option because they already see you as a good fit and they’ll be able to send you acceptance and scholarships earlier. I ended up using the later date because of my personal preference, but it shows you are on the right path. MICA tends to send you a lot of stuff. I think I got a huge informational booklet so look out for that. Anyway, I’m at RISD and I know a lot of people who had the same thing, but they are definitely interested you. :D

My dd got one also when she was applying. It was nice to get it in and be able to get an answer on the earlier side. But, she had already heard from her first choice before she heard back from MICA. It is a very good school and yes, if you get that letter, they are interested in you. Just so you know, if you want to apply for scholarship based on your portfolio, I think you can submit it for scholarship later (meaning submit again). It is worth asking. My dd got her portfolio approved early and then sent in her application, and I believe, had she wanted to apply for merit aid, she could have submitted an updated portfolio by the date set for submission.

D was admitted to MICA on Early Decision. If you want to apply for art-based scholarships, you need to complete your digital portfolio per their instructions and deadline (it is on the website).
