NROTC Question

Bossf51,
I haven't received anything in the mail from NROTC. However, the scholarship status website states that I have been selected for a 4-year Navy-option scholarship, and that I will be notified in writing within 2 weeks. What schools did you apply to? Have you heard anything from USNA?

yeah, i figured about george washington. that was my first choice and old dominion my second. i requested a change to university of maryland, but that is also feeding into george washington... i really hope it works out. thanks!!

For NROTC-Boston College and Holy Cross. Also Maine Maritime Academy as a backup. Haven't heard from USNA yet...QQQ with an appointment but so are 1900 other people!

Bossf51: I'm not sure I understand. You're triple Q'd with an appointment? What do you mean you haven't heard from USNA yet? If you have an appointment, then all you're waiting on is the permit to report packet.

Oops I meant nomination...wishful thinking I guess!

I already told the NROTC that I accepted the scholarship, like we were told to do. Now I have an appointment from the academy, which I accepted today. How did the rest of you in this situation tell the NROTC? I was going to write a letter to the CNET with the address listed on the NROTC website. But I thought I'd ask just in case.

"QQQ with an appointment but so are 1900 other people!"

Yeah, but 1500 of us will get offers of appointment. About a 79% chance at this point.

And concerning the NROTC scholarship and USNA, I could be wrong but I think I've heard that it's automatically voided on I-Day.

I figured I should say something to the NROTC so the slot could become available to another applicant.

Yeah that seems like the right thing to do.

rmoorenc~One thing you may want to consider before you write to NROTC...it doesn't happen often but sometimes people are D/Q'd on I Day. Many on this board have advised others to have a back-up plan. Once you are sworn in the NROTC is void I believe but you may want to think through this carefully. USNA has different DODMERB standards. There have been several with injuries prior to I Day etc. You may want to seek the advice of your B&G officer or someone with good knowledge of the process.

NavGirl,

I was surfing through some old threads and happened to run into a list of your "stats" and credentials. All I can really say is wow. There is just one thing that I don't quite get. With a 1590 SAT, 4.5, and being Captain America in all your activities, I am really surprised your are even considering the USNA. Without a doubt you are qualified and exactly the kind of person we want at a service academy. But a full NROTC scholarship to the best private school in the country? Yale? I am talking schools I wouldn't apply to if I was paid because I would just dissapoint myself.

I think perhaps you should serioudly question if you are really in the kind of "bind" you think you are in. Your options are not only absolutely amazing, but if you really wanted to go to the naval academy it seems to me you would have made the choice by now. Obviously I am in a FAR different position you are, but if your choices are a full ride to Harvard and an appointment to the Naval Academy, your options could not be more black and white.
