NROTC...QUICK Responses appreciated!

I am officially 99.9% done with my part of the application. Just a quick question though. Does it affect my chances of receiving one if I put "Strong desire to attend 1st choice school?" That's my choice, but I wouldn't mind selecting "1st choice desired but wouldn't mind attending 2-5 schools." If anyone is familiar with this part, please let me know ASAP before I submit it tonight. BTW, the official deadline for these are Jan. 31st.

They want your honest opinions so they have the flexibility to work with spots in open schools. Once you receive a scholarship, you still can petition for a transfer to another unit....so list your choices in order.

Alright... I really don't like how they make you sneak in a public school in your top 3 choices..but oh well. I did the best I could.

The reason they make you choose like that is because each unit is only allowed to have a certain number of scholarship students per class. This can create waiting lists or force some students to another school. Schools that have 'cross town affiliates' split their allotment up between those schools, making it just a little bit more competitive. But as mentioned above, you can request in writing to CNET that you transfer your scholarship to another school...but that again all depends on the number of scholarship students they have in the unit.

I ended up submitting the application with the option of "prefer 1st school, but won't mind choosing 2-5." Although Georgetown is my first choice, I think they are cross-town school and I wanted to maxmize my chance of getting one as much as possible.

Green09 - relax about your selection choices....one thing you'll learn real fast about military life is that you can make all the preferences known you want....BUT - ........................

So give it all your best knowing that if your application is strong - you have a good chance of your 1st choice. But if your goal is military service - you also have to have some degree of flexibility in your attitude and ultimate choices.

Good luck!!

Select where you want to go. My son selected USD, which is a private school, and he received the scholarship.

I don't know... I selected the second option because I'd rather go to 2nd choice with full scholarship then be offered none to Georgetown by any chance.

Just a quick update for any NROTC applicants out there. I just checked the website today and it looks like the deadline to submit apps were extended to Feb. 17 from Jan. 31.
