Hey, guys. I currently have the NROTC Scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, but after I visited Villanova in the fall, I realized that's where I needed to go to school. The only problem is that I need my scholarship to afford to go there. As soon as I heard that I got into Villanova on December 20th, 2011, I requested to transfer my scholarship. I was wondering if anyone has dealt with NROTC transfers or has heard word back from a transfer yet this year. Thanks!

Was Villanova on your list of 5 schools you submitted? My understanding is that typically the transfers that are accepted are from an expensive school to a less expensive school. That’s what my DS did. He heard within a week. That was 4 years ago though.

Yes. Villanova was my number 2 school on the list. I got an email about a week after I submitted the request saying that they weren’t doing the transfers yet, so I called the Villanova ROTC unit. They said that I should hear back officially from the Navy by February 15th, but I still haven’t heard anything. My mom is convinced that they are waiting to see if I get into ND, but I hope that’s not the case. Do you think I should call and see where my scholarship stands?

This is the military you are dealing with. Phone calls will get you no where. You need to go through the chain of command. Start with your officer recruiter.

All right! I emailed Villanova ROTC last week, and they informed me that I should be hearing soon. It is taking a longer time than expected because they want to see if any students who received the Villanova ROTC Scholarship did not get into the school Regular Decision. So hopefully I’ll be hearing this month!

Hi, I’m also waiting to get my scholarship transferred. My first choice was UCLA, and UC Berkeley was one of my wait list schools. I want to transfer my scholarship to Berkeley, but like everyone else, I need to send in my deposits + request for dorms + etc. by May 1st. The email that was sent to everyone requesting a transfer said that the results will be available until school starts. Will the results come by May 1st? Will calling them help? What’s their phone number??? Please help mee ): I really want to go to Berkeley!!

Learn to use the chain of command. Call the Unit at Berkeley and ask to speak to someone there about this. Remember you will be talking with an officer.

It’s not an easy process. My cousins son was on tether hooks when he was WLed at his first choice school, but accepted to the NROTC regiment there. Had to transfer to his second choice school where he was accepted. A few weeks later, first choice school cleared him from the WL, but he lost his ROTC spot there, went on the WL for the ROTC spot which did not open so he is at his second choice school since he could not go without the scholarship.
