NROTC schools that will give transfer students scholarships? Nat. Merit transfer?

Hi,

I'm in sort of a unique situation. I am in my second semester at McGill University in Canada. I really like the school. The people are awesome. I actually don't mind the weather, but it is not for me. It was right for me when I picked it, but it is no longer the right choice for me.

I have decided that I want to join the US Navy. It is something that I have been thinking about for a long time but did not seriously consider until about a year ago. I did not grow up in a military family and have known very few people who have served in the military. I want to join as an officer. There are basically three paths to do that. One is to go to the Naval Academy. They do not accept transfers. One is to go through OCS (Officer Commissioning School). This is a viable option, but the chances of acceptance are fairly low. The third path is to go through a NROTC program. This is what I am looking at right now. But hey, I'm in Canada. I am looking to transfer to a school with an NROTC program.

I am a South Carolina resident, so I am considering the University of South Carolina, but if there are any other paths I can take, I would like to consider them. Going to the University of South Carolina would be quite a disappointment after all of the work that I put in in High School. If I had decided this two years ago I would be on a full ride at Northwestern. South Carolina would be disappointing. But I should readjust my attitude and accept what life gives me. Going there would be significantly cheaper than continuing at McGill. I wouldn't need an NROTC scholarship, but I would be able to join and get my commission that way.

But if at all possible, I would rather transfer somewhere else. Georgia Tech would be ideal, but it is quite expensive out of state. I want to join NROTC, so it should be possible to apply for a NROTC scholarship after joining for a year. They offer a two year scholarship. I don't really know how competitive these scholarships are though. It would be risky to go to Georgia Tech and pay for one year, banking on getting the scholarship for the next two years.

So my question is, do you have any suggestions? Do you know of any schools with NROTC to which I could transfer and get significant aid? I will not qualify for financial aid, so I am looking for scholarships.

My current GPA at McGill is a 3.3 I did not go to class last semester so I guess I should be happy that it is not lower. Yes that does say something about me, but I am very motivated now that I have figured out the direction that I want my life to go. I graduated from high school with a 97 gpa and a 1480/2260 SAT.

I am currently on track to be a computer science major but am hoping to change that to a double Comp Sci and Middle East Studies degree. If I stay at McGill, that is what I am going to do.

I also was a National Merit Semifinalist, so I would love to know about any schools that will offer that aid to transfer students.

So what can I do to remedy this problem? Thank you for any advice you can give me.
