Nse

I've seen the website a bit, but is there anything I should know about ahead of time? I'll be signing up for classes and wondering if anyone has any tips on class signup.

I'll assume this is pretty much directed at me, since I'm the only one (that I know of) who has gone through NSE...

NSE is an...interesting...day. It's kind of hard to describe in that on one hand you feel like it's important and on the other, it really kind of blows. They throw a lot of info at you, sometimes in some really corny ways.

The biggest tips I can give you:

Go to the earlier sessions, as classes won't have filled up yet. That will make picking classes a lot easier.

Bring a calculator for the math placement test.

Don't guess on either the math or language placement test. If you don't know, then don't answer. You don't want to be placed way above your actual knowledge level simply because you are good at guessing.

Try asking your NSE leaders their favorite things, what they would reccomend you be sure to try and stuff like that. They actually take a semester long class (maybe it's a half semester) about the University as part of their training, so the really know a lot. Ask them about the history.

If you are from out-of-state and a guy, NSE is a great time to check out the fraternity houses and what they have to offer. All of the houses are required to be open and have rush chairs present. You can cover a lot of them quickly on one day (though you and your parent will both be pretty tired by the end - it's worth it to go all out).

The NSE leaders will be there to help with any sort of class scheduling, they'll show you how to use eNroll/WAM/Blackboard.

Stay away from Bio101 if at all possible. It's a class intended for people who had only minimal HS bio, but b/c of the 101 designation, a lot of people sign up for it. Try signing up for 102 if they will let you. They may have recently started requiring 101 as a prereq, but that may just be a suggestion. But Bio101, and particularly its lab really suck.
