DS just texted to let me know that he received his semifinalist notification at 4:20. He’s a sophomore applying for Russian summer.
Sorry @shakuton and @wendypius! You should look into Startalk if it’s in your area and other programs (CBYX isn’t due for a few weeks) best of luck with everything and next year if you apply again!
Just got my semi-finalist notification for the Russian summer program!
I got my Semi-finalist notification as well
-Applied to Russian Summer and no second choice
-From Illinois
In case any other Russian Summer Semi’s would like to chat, just shoot me a PM.
Good luck to everyone that has yet to hear back!

@Fangirl1999 What is CBYX? Also, what countries do they offer? Lastly, is it a scholarship or you just have to pay? Thanks! Good luck everyone! I didn’t get in either! But I’ll definitely try again next year! XD
Congrats everyone!!! (Sorry. My internet is slow. I just saw all the other results)
I’m excited for the interview!
Semifinalist for Korean year(1st choice) and Mandarin year!! So excited!!!
Semifinalist for Arabic summer and Russian summer! I’m ecstatic!
Last year I got rejected, but this year I am a semifinalist for Chinese summer! For those who received rejection emails, it’s okay to be upset, but don’t spend too much time pondering over it. There are many more programs abroad and in the US that offer full scholarships, and most of the apps aren’t due until next year! Don’t give up, and to my underclassmen, there’s always next year.
And by “next year” I mean like January-March, but you still have the whole winter break to fill out applications, I know that’s what I’ll be doing over the break (along with drinking a lot of egg nog).
Congrats guys!! I made semis for Russian summer too:))
Does anyone know for the academic year, around what date you would leave your home to start preparing to go abroad? Early, middle, or late August, maybe?
I completely agree! I got rejected from NSLI-Y last year and ended up getting a scholarship to Japan and this year I’m a semi-finalist.
