NSLI-Y 2018 - 2019

@Gatormama I think the website states that they want a teacher the student has had at some point over the past two years, not necessarily one they have had for two years, if that makes any sense. I think as long as the teacher knows your student and speaks well of them, it should be fine.

My D20 used her biology teacher, who is also assistant head of school, from last year. Fingers crossed.

Hi guys, I’m applying for Korean Summer and am trying to quickly finish my essays!

D is spending today’s rainy Sunday finishing her essays as well. Everything else is in shape. Good luck, everyone!

My daughter is trying for the Russia summer program. She finally finished her essays and hit the submit button on Friday. Good luck to all.

Finishing up my essays… Hopefully I’ll be submitting a few days before the deadline. Gosh, the anxiety…

My daughter is a summer 2016 China alumni and is now applying for a gap year. This on top of getting out college applications… Agh! Things were much simpler back when I applied to school. So many essays! The NSLIY application is a good way to refine those college app skills. Everything is due Nov. 1! For all those parents out there, I feel your pain, and empathize with your children.

$*%&!# - D just inputted the letter to host family WITHOUT ANSWERING A SINGLE PROMPT.

She has to start that one over again.
I swear, if I didn’t already have gray hair, it’d turn overnight.

My D found the host family letter to be the toughest part of the whole application. The other essays were easy by comparison.

The host family letter is hard. I’m satisfied with all parts of my application except for it.

Me too, still worried about my letter- the deadline is coming up and I don’t want to restructure it, but I’m worried about that part of my application in particular.

You can view whether your recommendation provider has submitted their recommendation by clicking on tab 15 of your application. If they have not, I think it would be a good time to remind them to ensure that your applications are complete in time (they have until Nov. 9th to submit).

I’m really stressed out about my transcripts not making it- I sent them out quite a while ago, I’m just concerned about them getting lost in the mail system or something, especially because the address on the envelope was handwritten.

@haylier my understanding is that if your transcript is still not submitted once the deadline passes, NSLI will contact you and give you another chance to submit it.

I can’t believe I procrastinated doing the essays until today: 2 days before the due date :’))

Me too! I keep hearing they are one of the most important parts of the application so I’m upset that I put them off ):

And she’s DONE. Hallelujah!!!

Just submitted my application for Mandarin Summer! I love procrastinating. I’m not trying to get my hopes up, but it would be so awesome if I got it. Good luck everyone!

I finally submitted my application for Korean summer. 16 hours before the deadline, whew!
I’m excited but nervous. Good luck to everyone applying!

2 hours left until the deadline! I submitted mine for Arabic summer last night, wishing everyone good luck!

I submitted mine for Mandarin Academic Year yesterday afternoon. Here’s to a long month of waiting for semifinalist notifications, everyone! Wishing the best for all of you.
