I know that Philharmonia is the non-music major orchestra at NU.. what's the quality of the music played, how dedicated/enthusiastic are the participants, how dedicated/enthusiastic/caring is the conductor, is there a huge difference between Philharmonia and other music-major orchestras..

is it rare for non-music majors to be invited to play (I know someone who got invited to play with the percussion ensemble a long while ago?) with the music major ensembles/orchestras, or are those opportunities at all accessible?

Actually, since we're talking about non-music-majors at Northwestern being involved in music, how does that work? Can you get professors as teachers, or only graduate students, or what? The music program at NU is one of the things that interested me the most about it, but I decided that I didn't really want to spend another year and 40,000 dollars to do something I wasn't going to use for my career, but I'd still want to participate. Sooooo how is it?

now that we're talking about non-music major ensembles, do engineering majors have time for philharmonia?

I hear the concertmaster of the orchestra (one of them) is majoring in MechE (and not doing a double-degree)
