I'm really curious because no one in my school has gotten into NU for the past few years, and I wanted to know what they were looking for in the supplement essay. Can any current students or accepted students show me what they wrote and give me any advice?

I assume you are talking about the Why NU? essay. The main advice I can give is to think about why you are applying, and just start writing. You’ll edit and such later, but that lays the ground work, at least it did for me. After writing whatever you think of as to why you’re applying, talk about things you want to get involved with, i.e. things that you will do for NU, not just what it will do for you.

I was very informal and talked about why NU was the right place for me. I also talked about why a degree from my major would help me to become a better person. I ended with saying what I would bring to NU with my unique qualities.

I focused on my major as well but woudl you suggest being really specific about all the programs or just coming across as incredibly enthusiastic about the college in general?

Mention specifics that aren’t necessarily on their front web page… Maybe email a professor you’re interested in taking a class with, and ask for some information? That’s what I did, just recently applied… I visited, so I talked about the class I sat in on, etc… Just DON’T come across as a college brochure spitting out general, boring facts and reasons…

They probably get thousands of essays stating “NU is my dream, first choice blah blah” just be original
