Northwestern Supplement Essay Help

I already have slim chances of getting into NU so I think the essay will really be my make or break, and I don't know what to write to not sound cliche! I'm applying to the Mathematical Methods in Social Sciences program too which I heard is also very hard to get into. But I figured I should write about that in the essay because it's exactly what I want to do and not a lot of other schools offer a program for something like that.
However I don't know what else to write about besides the city, prestigious school, small classes, etc. What makes NU unique?? What will make my essay stand out??

You writing style. Lol thia is coming from a guy who has yet to start this, but here’s what I am gonna plan.

List out EVERYTHING you know about Northwestern that you want to put in your essay that you will maybe use if you get accepted on a sheet of paper. Weave a story about your future plans and how NW-specific programs can fulfill them. Then add on by describing NW’s environment, its culture, its classes etc. What do you see in their math program that you think will help you the most in? Once you get that list( BTW dont just throw in random facts about NW) and start up, writing the rest should be easier ( since/if you are probably keeping your essay math oriented) Wrap up by talking about how you will add on your skills to NW community and they will add on to you.

Do something similar to this and you’ll find writing it will become easier. Hope this helped :)

They aren’t really asking “what can we do for you.” They already know they have a beautiful campus on the lake and access to Chicago and good professors and programs that will help students accomplish x, y and z. They are really asking “what is it about you that would add to our campus community.”

You want to date a hot guy / girl. Do you say “dating you would make MY dreams come true” and think that would be motivating? Or do you want to show how dating you would make THEM happy?

I completely agree with what was written in all the posts above me. To add on, I think you should point out the fact that that specific program isn’t offered in most places, and how you would utilize that unique opportunity to do something that would benefit/impact the community (any community, not just NU).
