I spent a couple of hours trying to find substantial information about the interdisciplinary programs offered at NU to include in my essay, and eventually i stumbled across a program that is perfect for me: the Interdepartmental Biological Sciences Program.

As somebody who is interested in multiple areas of biological sciences, having to pick specific field of study has always been a pain. But the IBSP addresses just that issue: no longer will i have to restrict my option to immunology and immunology only - instead, i will be able to pursue my interests in other fields such as Genetics and Cell Physiology, how sweet is that?

This is the perfect material for my essay - if it were an Undergraduate Program. I was rather disappointed to find out that its a Graduate program not only because it'll take me potentially longer to get to that place, but also because i can't include something i am truly passion about in my supplemental

Should i still mention the graduate program? If so, should it be my main focus or should i just mention it remotely

If you were to mention it, I would mention it remotely in conjunction with Northwestern Undergraduate Premedical Scholars Program, which I would also mention remotely as not many students are accepted each year. You could use that to supplement the direction you want to take with your studies, to help give an idea of who you are. What I would focus on is what undergraduate programs, clubs, etc. does NU have that no other schools have that will help you get to where you want to be (the IBSP program). Let me know if you have any questions, as I’m currently a student here.

Thank you for the tips, I decided to focus on the Biological Sciences program. I will pm you my current essay, could please give me some feedbacks?

the common app doesnt really specify the word limit for the nwu essay. i keep hearing 250 but dont understand if that is the maximum or minimum or just a ball park estimation. either way, my essay is 500 words so i should definitely trim it down, right?
